I'm just about finished with my 2018 Diverge Sport upgrade. I want to replace those heavy OEM Axis Sport wheels with something nicer. I'd like to set up a wheelset that will be used 75% of the time on pavement and then venture out 30% of the time on gravel fire roads, etc. I'm looking @ DT-350 CL Disc hubs laced to HED Belgium or Belgium Plus rims. I desire to be able to run tires in the 32 - 38mm range and want to know if which rim choice will work better for that. I'd like the wheelset to be around 1650 - 1700 grams give or take. For more dedicated gravel work later down the road I'm going to have some 650b wheels built with the same hubs and wider rim for 45-47mm tires. Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Because of what you said above, why don’t you make this first wheelset more like a road wheelset (narrower rim, narrower and lighter tires). You can get deals on wheels w/QR hubs for wheels meant with with road disc bikes. Then go beefy when you’re ready with the second set.

Not sure I want to settle on some bargain wheel deal, however this may be the way I go at least in respect with lighter wheels for the road. My intent is to have the two wheelset use the same hub so that switching out the sets is then just a matter of swapping the CL disc rotors and the cassette and use the same chain and the RD should already be dialed in. Anybody know if the dimensions on the DT-350 vs. DT-240 are the same in this regard?

I just may use the OEM wheels for awhile as they come shod with 38mm Trigger Pro tires so I can try out more varied routes. Maybe after that initial use I'll have a better idea of my needs going forward.

Ultimately I intend to do some light bike camping and/or credit card camping on bike trails in the US (after retirement). At that point, I can see having purpose built road wheels and 650b wheels for the more demanding stuff.

Also where I live, I can easily ride to some trails that would use the 650b wheels and/or ride just pavement so I see myself swapping out the sets often.

I had a set of wheels made with DT Swiss 240 hubs and Pacenti Forza rims which I am running 43 front and 38 back. I believe the these will fit your weight requirements.

I've gotten over 1,000 gravel miles on these so far and I'm pleased.

These are a tad heavier, but cheaper - DT Swiss ER 1600 SPLINE . DT Swiss rates them for a 286 taking 6" drops. I've been using
(the R32 version) them for a year now and they've stayed tighter than any wheel I've owned - bladed spokes are even straight.

If it were my bike, I'd start with the 650B wheels and just switch between knobby and file-tread tires depending on the ride. You may not even feel the need to bother with the 700C wheels after that.
