Sorry about the teaser. I went to pick up the bike right after work even though I was supposed to be preparing dinner for my better half. Now that the bellies have been seen to I can get down to uploading the rest of the pictures and have closer look at what I actually got. It's a Joco Ronde van Europa:

No spectacular story of barns, or long forgotten inventories, alas. Just a nice man cleaning up his garage and putting his late dad's bike up for sale.

That is an extremely cool bike! I don't suppose you can explain the ring in the front spokes?

What a cool old bicycle. Good for the OP.

The ring on the front wheel is for safety, being made of highly reflective material. I picked up an old Peugeot roadster, with 28" wheels, and each wheel was fitted with the reflector rings...

Very nice Joco. I think I saw it on Mp. With 'reserved'. Good to see it found a good home with you.

Earlier this week I bought a Peka with the same lugs. Does anyone know what lugs that are?

Looks like all questions have already been answered. Thanks guys! Regarding the rings in the spokes: side reflection became mandatory for bikes in Holland per January 1st 1986. It took a little while for the tire producers to come up with an integrated solution, and in the meantime one had to make do with these ugly contraptions. If you find a bike with these it usually means that the tires are at least 20 years old.

Thank you. I think so too. Joco is one of the lesser known Dutch brands (Elev12k wrote a post on its history in another thread IIRC). It was known for building very smooth-riding, handbuilt bicycles, both for racing and touring.

Okay. These are rapidly taken pics from direct after collection and they do not exactly show the bike how I would like it to be. Look through it and you get the idea. A good starting point for something very nice. The second Peka for me. Way cool.

Hi,

Pretty nice bike. Did you allready restore it? And how did it look afterwards?
The chain guard originally has a chrome disc to close it. Did you find one? Recently I bougth a lot of them.

Regards,

Yorick.

Welcome, Yorick! And thanks. No, I'm still not sure what to do with it yet, and some other projects enabled me to postpone that decision.

And no, I haven't found the missing disc yet. I need to get the measurements, as they seem to have come in different sizes. I'd be interested if you have the correct one.

Hi,

Sounds like many bicycles you have?
I bought a pile of diferent sized discs, so your size could be amongst them. Please measure the inner diameter of the guards' circle. Measure at multiple places to be certain of the size, because these tend to be not exactly circular anymore.
If you consider selling the bike, than I would be interested aswell.

Kind Regards,

Yorick.

Hi,

Little discussion about the crankset: Hermesse is a brand you see a lot on vintage sports bicycles of that time. Hermesse has also many different details on different cranks. What I was curious about is if Hermesse was an cheap replacement of Stronglight for sportsbicycles? Was Stronglight more for the expensive racing bicycles?

Kind Regards,

Y.

Thanks, Yorick! I haven't got the bike with me right now, but I'll measure as soon as I have the opportunity and get back to you.

And yes, I do have quite a few bikes.

WRT to the Hermesse cranks: I'm not too familiar with them, but the ones I've seen were all on high-end sports bikes, as far as I can recall. Like you say, I think Stronglight was the more obvious choice for racing and super sports bikes, to put it in 1960's terms.
