There's a Similar ad on Salem's CL

https://salem.craigslist.org/bik/d/s...878147255.html

In the Salem add, there's only 1 picture and they claim it has an aluminum frame and front suspension. $800. Is anyone missing their Madone out there?

SanFran CL: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/bik/d/emeryville-2018-trek-madone-a1-working/6878092310.html

And Stockton too:
https://stockton.craigslist.org/bik/d/discovery-bay-2018-trek-madone-very/6873796787.html

I'll flag the Salem add.

Here is a good tip to follow; DON'T BUY YOUR BIKE ON CRAIGSLIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That way you won't be buying a stolen bike or a bike needing more work than it is worth or a bike or a fake. Trust me being the original owner of a bike pays off in the end especially when it comes to warranty and repair.

but but but .... I am riding old steel bikes from 1980s.... won't find on bike shop.

So, I found another one that looks fishy - because it only has phone contact, but can be a deal too.

CHEAP TANDEM BIKE - $10
https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/b...879359193.html
I have no use for this bike anymore and honestly just want it gone. My sorry ass wife left me and now i'm too lonely to even look at something that involves two people. $10 takes it. Please text me to come pick it up.

It took a little doing, but I found the same picture on this website: Tandem Bicycles For Sale, Tandem Bike Components For Sale Price: $8500. The Seattle post looks like a scam for sure!

Spectrum Cycle Tandem

November 29
Built in 2008 by Tom Kellogg's Spectrum Cycles, this tandem is built for the road, a 30 speed jewel of both mechanical harmony and visual artistry. The tubing is aircraft grade alloy for rigidity and lightness. Kellogg only builds one Tandem per year.

Gearing is from 29-130 gear inches in about 3 point increments, allowing your team to always be in the perfect place in your power curve. Brakes and gearing are Shimano, with a Phil Wood drag brake under separate handlebar thumb control.

Pilot should be 5'10" to 6'3", stoker 5'4" to 6'4". The bike was originally built for wife and son-in-law (a 6'4" NFL player). The bike has only 100 original miles. The pilot had knees replaced, end of the ride...

For serious and strong pair, the top of the line, only bike you'll ever want or need.

Original cost $10k+

Price: $8,500.

This beautiful bike is located in North Plainfield, NJ. I prefer local pick up, or I will cooperate with shipping arranged for and paid by buyer.

For more information please call 573-six2zero-threezero14 or Send an Email.

Some of that new steel is quite nice. I love vintage bikes, don't get me wrong but some of those new steel bikes are real nice especially with nice wide tires mmmmmhmmm!

It is a really poor scam I would have at least tried for $100 come on! It is a shame I don't have $8500 to buy the real thing but then again I would want disc brakes on it

Spectrum is relatively local to my neck of the woods, so I have seen a lot of Spectrum bikes in my lifetime. I know at least 5 people who own one. No disrespect, but "visual artistry" is not Spectrum's forte. Most of the ones I have seen range from ho-hum to unfortunate.

These people aren't trying to sell bikes.
They're trolling for email addresses, phone #'s, contact information for scamming and spamming.
They download pictures from other legitimate ads and use them.
A low price attracts more questions etc thereby more contacts.

The usual common sense, "If it's too good to be true, it usually isn't" should prevail

Hmm. Syntactically, shouldn't it be "If it's too good to be true, it usually is"?

In the second clause, the word "is" or "isn't" refers to the first clause, which states it in the negative -- something is too good to be true (i.e., is false). So, if it is NOT true, the second clause would include the word "is."

Oh, and don't respond to ads that list expensive bikes for $10. Duh.

Boulder CL has the back half of that Trek. Maybe the whole bike is $800?

Whatever. Completely absurd. I've bought and sold bikes abd components on CL probably 100 times all over the greater midwest and have nothing but good things to say.

I have not come across a bike that i even began to think was stolen, and if I did I simply wouldnt buy it. A few questions will tell you the claimed history of the bike with the current owner and if it sounds odd, then don't buy.
Pretty simple.

Your view is easily applies to most anything used. The same position could be made about eBay, Facebook Marketplace, and even garage sales.

My family of four currently has 15 bikes between us. I have nine and the others have two each. Of those 15, only two were purchased new - my wife's road bike and my mountain bike. We will never see the value of having purchased either of those new. We do not regret purchasing either of them, but the value of purchasing the new is nonexistent.

But hey, that's all just me and my experiences. Perhaps everyone else is buying stolen bikes on Craigslist and getting value out of new bike purchases by snapping frames.

Oof, I saw that Madone a couple of weeks ago in a Miami ad. If it was local, I might have gone to look at it.

https://www.bikeforums.net/20897561-post49.html

Earlier, it was showing the NDS side.

Obviously needing some work.

It is always a puzzle, unless they wish to catch some unscrupulous sellers who are trying to catch a few buyers willing to pay a deposit, or pay to get it shipped.
