I need to lose weight!

There, I posted it! I am 6'4" and 240lbs, and not a good 240. I want to lose weight, but I lack the will power I need. I keep telling myself that I'm not too far from where I want to be which is around 215 lbs. I think that's the biggest reason I always put diet and exercise off. I was 200 lbs 4 years ago, I met a GREAT lady and now all I do is sit on the sofa and play slap and tickle! We both have bikes and before I met her, I rode 4-5 times a week. How do I get it back guys and gals?! I know the answer is simple, get off my rump and get on my bike. Just wanted to get it out there I guess!!

Bikes: 1997 Giant MB, 2011 Felt Z85 Road Bike...and searching. Why didn't anyone tell me that when you get into biking you develop a sick need to own more & more bikes!?

Welcome to the forum! --My best advice to you is to try & realize why you fell in love with it to begin with. Was is the freedom of hitting the trail/road and layin' on some speed, or was it just the journey/thrill of going somewhere new and checking out the landscape as you rode? -- It's different for everyone, but in my opinion it would help to change your perspective a bit and try to see it as FUN, instead of work. And who knows maybe you can get your lady to hop on her bike too! It's always best to have a workout partner for motivation! Pedal...pedal...pedal!

Plan a little adventure that involves biking for the both of you? I planned one for my spouse and I for tomorrow. It helps me too because I sat on my rear the last few days.

You're not to far away. I was 265 at the beginning of this year. I stepped on the scale this morning and I'm 215. It can be done, you just have to set your mind and go for it.

Sounds pretty good to me, what's the problem?

I know the answer is simple, get off my rump and get on my bike.
Or maybe just get off HER rump and get on the bike?

Thanks for the replies guys and ladies! You all have given me some GOOD advice! I have definitely been viewing cycling as work lately, and I do need to make it a little more adventurous. chuck556, you may be on to something. When I do ride, I'll go out and ride way past the distance that it's enjoyable, and then I don't feel like riding again. I think taking it a little slower and shorter may be the ticket (for now. RubeRad, it's all fun until you wake up and realize you're overweight

My biggest advice to you would be to get a body fat analysis done, and unfortunately I don't know the best/easiest/most accurate way to accomplish that. Why? Knowing your body composition will help you set feasible goals. In September, it was time for our regular weigh-in with our trainer, and according to his system I'd weigh 178 if I had 0% body fat. Well, my target weight was 180, but now I knew that was too low! I'm now aiming for 195 (10% body fat), and will revise as I get closer. I just don't want your goals to be unrealistic, which might lead to disappointment, etc.

For the wife and I we started out just riding to the store 2 or 3 mi round trip for some little things.
Than it went to 20mi round trip for breakfast now it's 50mi round trip for lunch.
She about 10 pounds and I'm about 40 pounds lighter.
We try to keep it fun.
