Newbie-ish but Diving In
Howdy, I'd say I'm "really getting into cycling" for the first, though I have owned a GT Tequesta MTB and an older Specialized Allez road bike. I never really rode that Specialized (life happens) so I sold it, but recently decided to do a triathlon and picked up a Trek Domane aluminum.
I'm married with 3 kids, so I get to help take care of those bikes, plus I'm starting to get interested in not just maintenance but maybe doing a rebuild on my old GT.

easier to work on your bike if you have a stable to take care of? meaning "Honey gotta get everyone's bike ready" & you get to do what you want

Welcome. Lots of knowledgeable and helpful people here to guide you on the rebuild. Congratulations on the Trek too. Triathlon training can be awfully challenging though with three children

Welcome from NorCal! I have one of those older GTs too, before they sold the company. That's when they were NICE. I kept mine as well, people like the older ones from before.

Thanks for the warm welcome!
Regarding the GT rebuild... I'm going slow :-) watching youtube videos and reading forums to get what I want clear, and to learn what in the world I'm doing. :-) Also, I'm starting small, by doing little updates to the 16" kids bike my daughter inherited from her older brothers.
Tri training IS challenging with kids... but I've tried to find ways to connect with the family on it. Sometimes we've gone to the pool together... I swim my laps, then play with the kids, and the boys then want to swim a few laps too. When I run, sometimes the family will ride bikes along with me. :-)
