bike permits for metro north

I've heard conflicting reports from different posts and other sources on obtaining a permit.The metro N. site says window 27 at Grand Central or any ticket selling window.Someone told me that window 27 is closed now.Are there manned ticket windows at all train train stations?I live near riverdale.Is the transaction immediate or is it like online where you pay and they send you in the mail?I'm looking to ride Thur.so I'll want the permit immediately.

you must pick up the ticket in person at a window. Or you can pay to fill out an application on a train (i've done this before) and bring it to the window to pick up a pass.

I think you can get them at any station with a manned ticket window. I got mine immediately at Croton-Harmon.

Spike and Riverdale are not manned stations. Yonkers to the north and 125 to the south are the closest manned ticket booths.

You can get the pass at any window in Grand Central, been there done that.
In anycase if you get caught without a pass the options are;
a) They kick you off, never saw that happen (Oh Yeah I have a pass)
b) Don't even ask, usually the case if you ride alone and not in a group
c) The Conductor asks and you asy oops left it home, He will:
1) Charge you the $5.00 for the pass and you can get a REAL PASS when ever with the receipt for no extra fee from Metro North/LIRR
2) He says, Okay next time don't leave it at home.

In anycase good luck
