Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

road bike from a tri bike

I have a 2009 Fuji D6 tri bike and wanted to change for a road bike. Someone offered me a 2013 Cannondale supersix 5 as a straight trade. Any opinions on if this trade would be worth it? I'm doing a 70 mile race and haven't been using my tri bike for any triathlons, just road riding.

What are the components on your bike vs the 'Dale? Frame material? Wheels?

I'd be most careful with the size. Depending on the fit--and the D6 is a pretty long-and-low tri bike--you may not be the same size in a road bike as you are in tri.

If you've got your fit all dialed in a tri bike is actually a great bike for distance rides (I'm assuming you're not talking about actual USAC racing, in which case you'll absolutely need to ditch the tri bike), but a road bike is more versatile if you're not doing tris. I'd just make sure the fit will work for you before completely ditching your D6.

Sounds like a pretty fair trade to me.
