Crane is another excellent bell. When I approach pedestrians, I ring it once from 30 ft behind. When I pass them, it is still resounding. Whatever you get, be sure it's brass. It's worth the extra cost.

I use the old style Knog Oi as I like the low profile. It is not as loud as others, but seems to work 90% of the time (mostly used on the MUP). It won't get a car's attention.

I'm concerned about pedestrians and other cyclists -- not cars (regarding a bell).

Yesterday morning when I was riding in Philly I started to day dream a bit and started drifting to the left. Another cyclist was coming up behind me on my left. She rang her bell and it was a very pleasant and effecdtive way to get my attention. That's when I thought "I should get a bell".

I just ordered a Spurcycle bell in silver. (I remembered that I had a $50 gift certificate from a shop in Colorado siting in my desk draw, and they carry Spurcycle. )

Yeah, bells are not toys. They are very useful, and I have a bell on every bike of mine, with two on the tandem. It conveys the right message that people understand right away. Yelling and horns are too severe.

It's a good thing I had a gift certificate because I had a hard time explaining to my wife why a bicycle bell costs $50.

i have these on my Salsa Journeyman running 650bx 47 mm tires no problem. work great.

I have a knog oi bell and it works well for the greenway or MUP. I just ring it twice so people don't think it is iOS text notification.
i like the low profile. I want to put one on my Cervelo as well for group rides and stuff.

50$?? I just paid $14 for my Velo-Orange brass bell. It's large, loud, and lovely.

I ended up with the Cascadias. (My LBS said the Honjos would be a bear to mount on this bike so I returned those.) They look ok but they are not the fenders of my dreams. Sorry it has taken me this long to posted a pic.

That is a handsome bike. I'll bet you were too busy riding it to take pics. Have you gotten used to the brifters yet? And don't worry about the fenders; they look quite appropriate to the look; more urban warrior than pretty snowflake. I have the same ones in silver (really grey) on my bike and they do the job, keeping road debris off my face.

Thank you! Yes I've gotten used to --- and very much like -- the shifters. The only downside to them is that when mounted a Wald 137 basket on the front rack on Friday, I hd to mount it lengthwise, rather than sidewise, because if mounted sidewise the basket would hinder the inward movement of the shifters. It's not a big deal to me, but would be to someone who needed to mount a basket sidewise.

Agreed!

My next task is to get an alternate mount for my Cateye headlight, since a bag in the basket blocks the light. If the basket was mounted sideways, I think a Problem Solvers Front Rack Light Mount would work well attached to the 8-pack: https://problemsolversbike.com/produ...mount_-_271821. But with the basket lengthwise I would have to mount the light upside down to fit under the protruding portion of the basket, and I'm not sure if that's a good idea.

So instead I'm going to first try to mount the light onto the front of the basket with one of these clips - KLICKfix bicycle basket Light Clip https://www.ebay.com/i/264282262235?chn=ps

In any event I'm having fun.

I hope that works; I gather the two screws keep it tight enough that it doesn't pop off at every pothole? Not that I've experienced that... I'm looking at possibly using the TwoFish Lockblocks to attach a flashlight to my fork blade. I'm looking for more visibility on foggy mornings.
