It looks like me to a repaint. the Head Badge and Ironman Logo are 1988, while the Down tube logo is 1986-87.

The Hotter 'N Hell is pretty flat you won't need a climbing gear. I rode it last year with 53/39 11-28 and didn't really need the 28. I'll get with you about plans for the HHH weekend. If you are wanting a room you should reserve it now if you can find one. I would offer to put you up but all we have extra is a twin bed and my SIL will likely claim it. We live 50 miles south of Wichita Falls and just drive up that morning. We also go the day before and go to the Expo and pick up our packets.

Robbie most likely will be on his big ring until the point around 80 miles when you turn south and hit the headwind. He might have to grab some more gears then.

It's a repaint but awesome. Combines the colors, effects, and fonts of the iconic Ironman. My size frame and stem...but it is surely a mongrel. Would be hard to build, and basically, no purse or shoes would match.

Thanks for the tip...maybe a full sized FSA crsnkset would be better. Will also go with a short cage RD and 11-28 rear. I can always re-fit it for Missouri hills when I get back.

My girlfriend has done it, said the headwind is "a reality." My goal is to be there to pull her in. Heck, she may ride her Guerciotti if sweating on the Carlo Danessa paint is not a danger.

I'll keep in mind that this will be after 160-mile RAIN, 2x160-mile RAIL's N&S, (6 days apart) 225-mile RAW, and the 2x100-mile Sat/Sun MS rides. These are in a 10-week span, I think.

I may well be dead.

If you get the right conditions and the right express train, you can do it in under 4 hours. Txsailor can confirm, but I think the biggest "hill" is an overpass. You will spend most, if not all of your time hammering on your big ring and the 2 or 3 smallest cogs. Your main obstacles are the weather and the wind. If it turns out to be a scorcher, they will close Hells Gate early. You will have to put on the afterburners to make it there or be diverted to the 75 mile course. It's a dry heat and you bake in the sun. Hydrate actively on a schedule because your sweat evaporates so fast that you don't feel like you need water. It almost the direct opposite of SOTR. That little climb after you leave the Y at the start of SOTR might be bigger than any at HNH.

Soooooo, have I ever explained why I use friction barcons and not indexed brifters? No? Well, I just got done donating platelets which I do about every 3 weeks. 87 minutes on a Trima machine squeezing a squeezy thing every 3-5 seconds during the drain cycles. Uggghhh! By the end of the session my forearm is so pumped up I can't make a fist. Tapping a brifter lever works the same group of muscles. I couldn't master working both DT shifters with one hand, either. That's why I go with friction/barcons. I know, BFD, who cares anyway?

At the risk of geeking out to bad, I agree the lugs do appear to be a Master. and the 6400 groupset would support that.

I used to do that, took 3 hours but I didn't have to pump anything, just sat there. Often did homework at the same time, mostly reading. Lines went out one arm, behind me, back in the other.

I don't know what the record is but I'm sure its been done in less than 4 hours. 5 hours is sort of a benchmark some people shoot for. I try to survive. The rest stops are about every 10 miles and are usually well stocked with water ice & food. I have rode it every year since 2014 but have only done the century 3 times. The other times I was with someone who wanted to go a shorter distance. The rest stops are well stocked and about 10 miles apart so there is no reason to get dehydrated as long as you keep drinking. They have a great medical staff on hand for anyone who has a problem or a crash. The scenery sucks but the people and support are what makes it a good ride. That and the challenge of doing 100 miles in 100 degree heat.

Having ridden ‘19’s RAIN, with temps from 88 at 5am to 97 at 6pm, and the index at 106 most of the day, I will be fine with only 100 miles.

The HNHH Not Your Daddy’s Ironman, Either was wiped down last night. Assembly begins tonight. Saddle en route.

I haven't decided whether to try the HNHH this year. I know I won't be staying in Wichita Falls, since I'm in Fort Worth. A couple of years ago a friend rode out there from Fort Worth, did the full 100, and rode back home, with hardly any break, nearly 300 miles. I won't attempt that. But I will try a couple of full centuries early this year to see how the neck feels.That's always the limiting factor for me beyond 50 or 60 miles.

Just picked up a cool mini-Ironman for my daughter to ride. Been looking for one of these for a while, found it for $70 from a bike shop clearing inventory before moving their location.

Rode it around the block and it feels great! Wish there was a slightly wider tire available for the 520 (24") front wheel, but still a cool ride:

^^^^ Those Terry-inspired, Terry-esque, whatever roadies are the shizz. I really think that if more mfrs built 700/650 or 700/24 roadies over the years, more small-ish women would be riding roadies to this day.

Quick question as I'm nearing the put-it-all-back-together phase of my Ironman refurb. The "stepdown ferrule" or whatever it's called for the chainstay cable stop. I still have the original and will probably be able to get it off the old housing, and I've seen stepdown housings online, but wondering if there's a particular brand or product out there that people have found works well. Thanks in advance.

I bought one "Sturmey Archer Cable Fulcrum, Clip Chainstay 15.9mm" from eBay back in 2018 for a Sekai I used to have, but was totally useless... looked nice though....
Ended up picking one old one at a local coop that turned nice.

There are several threads about how C&V prices are in decline and some people can't give them away. I haven't noticed this with the Centurions but maybe I'm the only one over paying for them. I have bought 5 including one frame set and although reasonable I haven't noticed them getting any cheaper lately. Maybe Robbie & I are keeping the prices inflated
