Here's one where eBay itself is being wacky. What's wrong with this picture:
Yes, it's the tax. I'm trying to pay for a $5.00 chainring from the Old Spokes' Home in Burlington. Our friends at eBay are now in the tax collection business. Somehow eBay is calculating 205.5% sales tax rather than the 5.5% that applies to my state/county. And it's eBay itself doing this, not the seller. The rep at Old Spokes has been an absolute angel, even tried to create an invoice via eBay. On her end, it shows 55 cents tax, but as soon as I open it, eBay recalculates it with that extra ten-spot.
So watch your cart totals, eBay-oids.......

I'm in touch with a seller now and getting info is like pulling teeth. Ask three questions, get half of one answer. Provide my number and suggest speaking on the phone in order to speed things up and clarify, get another email response. I'm afraid to ask for more than the current so-so single photo or for detail on frame measurements or components.

Don't be afraid. Either you'll buy their stuff or you won't. We're all aware that you don't have to be a genius to operate a business, but lacking knowledge and intelligence will certainly make staying in business harder. This might be an example of that. It's just a matter of how bad you want it, and how much time you're willing to invest to potentially see a return.... Ask yourself why you're interested and if that reason is compelling enough to deal with the seller. Then you'll have the answer!

I'm not really worried. Just gives me more time to talk myself out of the bike that I do not need and which would not be my first choice for an '80s tourer, but which appears to be in really nice original condition and is reasonably priced. You know how it is. Mostly venting about the communication aspect.
