Question about 11x28 vs 11x30 Ultegra R8000 Cassette
So i'm currently running a semi compact crankset 52x34 and a 11x28 cassette R8000 Ultegra series. I was thinking of slapping on a 11x30 cassette for the hills. However, I do plan on getting into so racers and fondos that have a lot of climbing. I am climbing fine in my region now but sometimes can use some extra wiggle room. Is there a major difference between these two cassettes and moving from 11x28 to 11x30? Does anyone know all the ranges that are on the cogs in between?

Both of my modern carbon bikes came with 28t 10 speeds. I went to 30t on both of them, and it made a big difference to me. One is a compact Ultegra Di2 50/34, and the other is a 105 triple 50/39/30, giving me a 1/1 granny gear, which has proved useful. The Di2 Ultegra is a medium cage and the 105 triple has a long cage rear derailleur. You might want to check that out. I added a Roadlink to the 105 triple, just to get the chain to run smoother, but the Di2 didn't need it. A few years ago I changed a 26t 8 speed to a 28t, and it made a big difference there too. When you're doing hills, more rear gear is always a good thing.

If your current gearing doesn't allow you to do the climbs you regularly do, then you need to change something.
You can go to the manufacturers website and find the descriptions and specs for all their products. Shimano is good at giving most of the basic info in their product details. Teeth on cogs of cassete and crank chainwheels being one of them. I haven't looked recently, but I think they even give the chain wrap or capacity and min/max cog/chainwheel for their various deraileurs in the product details. Might seem like gobblety-gook at first. But after you reason it out it makes sense.
Gear ratios are simply chain wheel teeth divided by cog teeth. Or use a gear calculator site........https://www.bikecalc.com/gear_ratios

Personally, my 11-30T is my favorite cassette unless I know I'm going to need lower gearing and throw on the 11-32T or 11-34T. For my ability, riding style and terrain I like having the slightly larger gaps on the lower cogs while still maintaining tight enough spacing of the higher cogs. But what works for me isn't necessarily right for others.
