LOL
I saw one come up in my area for $100. I emailed immediately, which was 9 minutes after posting. I didn't hear anything back for a day. I searched again and it was still there, but then listed at $200. I emailed again and said I'd still take it, call me, and I'll leave work and come get it right now. Didn't hear anything back. I then got an email saying the price was $400. That made me pretty mad, but still a steal so I said I'd take it and to PLEASE call me so I can get directions to come pick it up. Finally, I got an email 15 minutes later saying "sorry, it's sold." Now I know the right thing to do would have been to just offer him $500 up front, but I didn't want it that badly I guess. On the same token, I LOATHE craigslist sellers who do this stuff.
Thanks for listening to my rant. Are you going to pick this one up?

I have a pretty good idea I know who the owner is, and he is a member here.
I seriously thought about this purchase for myself, but she's just a little too big.
I'd go and buy her today folks if she was a little smaller. Scratch that.
This morning.
Now that the bike is out in the open, you've got to take care of this if you want the bike.
......and the wheelset he has available sounds like a no brainer as well.

robertofergy 's very right in the sense that Winnipeger's are cheap and it's so very off season. My bank account is screaming no , but I'm going to see it ...

I was in contact with the original seller of this bike months and months ago but we couldn't come to an agreement on the price. I think it is a good deal for everything you are getting, see if he will throw in the wheels for $700. I have a Merckx now or this would be on it's way to me

It all really depends on if I can swing to buy a touring bike that was offered for me... knowing that if needed I could sell it is a tad comforting. Tomorrow we'll all know. If I do pick it up expect TONS o pics (and probably several questions too)
Edit* if you were spending your own money, how would YOU build this bike up?

Hey OP, thanks for posting. No surprise that a Mercxk comes up in your area - Eddy's son Axel lives in Canada.

Wow, very cool, I didn't know that Mr. Merckx had Canuck roots. Not to be all stalker-ish but where is Eddy's home going to be? I am guessing somewhere in Quebec.

(it's a family site so you'll have to imagine some of the strongest curse words available) I'm still going to see it , but my car broke down on the 1.5 hr drive home today. I'm finding out the cost of repairs tomorrow, of course this happens TODAY. Depending what the damage is this may not be feasible. Update tomorrow of course. Good lord I'm upset.

In the right lane
I would love to visit Western Canuckistan. I hear there are vintage bicycles in every driveway.

Well theres never a good time for the car to break, or I guess summers a much better time for cars to break actually, but anyways that sucks. Sorry to hear that. If its any help I think I am the second person to contact him (you being the first) so he told me that if he doesnt sell it to you tomorrow that he'll set up a time for me to go see it at which point I will not buy it. So that should give you a few extra days to figure stuff out because I prolly wont go see it till saturday.

Thank you, I'm hopefully hearing back from the (car)shop at home in an hourish so I'll know the damage then. If it's not too bad I may be able to swing this in any case great to know it's not necessarily disappearing any time soon. Can anyone who's owned a Merckx sing me sweet tales of magical riding properties?
