1979 Sidewinder found in trash. Originally a 5 speed. As found had no hardware or a front wheel. Saved the rear wheel and 38 - 14 5 speed freewheel, just in-case I find a matching front wheel. Laced a Nexus 3 speed to a set of aluminum rims, and put some Electra street tread wheels on it. Took off the beauty ring from the crank, and with a few odds and ends put it together. Rides like a dream. I rode it all summer. Loaded it with a set of cheap panniers, and took it to the North end of the Flint Hills. Ottawa Ks to Baldwin City and back. Did just fine. I would consider adding front brakes if I were to do this more than annually, but for what I have around here, the coaster brake is just fine.

Here's one that I just finished. Its a Miyata Ridge Runner frame that I got from who knows where, and its been hanging up in my shed for ages. I finally decided to build it up and here it is. New-everything installed, and wheels made by me. Upgraded to a 9 speed, Microshift thumbies, and Deore rear mech. Sugino AT crankset.

The C17 is okay. It performs like a B17 that hasnt been broken in yet. It'll always stay that way. Its a better choice than a lot of of saddles out there, but I'm spoiled with my B17.

I just posted this one elsewhere, but may as well post it again. This is my mid-90s Bianchi Nyala I've owned since new. Fully lugged chrome-moly frame and pretty "active" geometry for a mountain bike, I think. Over the years I've gone to a 1x7 setup with some Shimano 600 cranks and swapped the bars and stem. Currently on Marathon Mondiale tires. Love this bike.

Miele Mt Bike
This is one of my most recent upright bar build ups from several months back that I decided to hang onto.
It has become my 'grocery getter'/ 'errand bike.
It's from around the 1988 to 1990 time frame I think.
I like the slack head tube that is 70 degrees.
I've probably got 500 to 600 miles on it by now and like it.
It's not too fancy or well known enough to be too concerned about locking it up around town on errands.
From what I've found Miele bikes were made in Canada and they offered both road and mt bike models.
There's not much left in way of original parts.
I removed many of the decals as they were a bit gaudy for my taste.

Bottom Bracket Assistance
I recently picked up an early 90s GT Talera that I'm working to convert to a 1x7 commuter and I have run into an issue with the new track/single speed crankset I purchased. . . It does not fit all the way onto the spindle. I should have done a bit more research before jumping the gun and purchasing the new crankset. Do I now need to purchase an ISO square taper BB in order for the crankset to fit?

Thanks, I'll check out Sheldon Brown and poke around on here. I believe I figured out the issue, I need a 103mm spindle to match the crankset (Origin 8 track/as)

I bought this for the group, my original plan was to put the parts on the Bruce Gordon but plans change so I finally put it all together last night and rode it to work today. It's DB Tange it's surprisingly quick even with the cheap tires so I may actually put the basket in my Amazon cart on it.

not sure if this qualifies but the bull moose bars have more rise and back sweep then the original bars. I sit in a much better position and this is most definitely an Urban cruiser. Love it.

I'm 62 and like many people used to ride a lot, then stopped. When I picked it up again I started on the bikes I have, a 1970 Lygie road bike that I have owned for over 40 years. I put a tall stem and porter style bars on. A good start.
I also had a univega alpine that I bought new in 93, or so. It got a riser, cheap adjustable stem, sunlite northroads bars, and maxis dth tires. Now we are getting somewhere.

But you guys with too many bikes are starting to suck me in, haha. I NEEDED a bike to keep at my home in Baja, I can't be carrying the univega back and forth.
I found a Raleigh m60, cheap. It got the same riser, stem and bars. It will keep the heavy road/off road tires and tubes. Good for Baja.

Old drive line, thumbies, good racks, upright handlebars looks like 4 checks...
The saddle is a placeholder until the new Berthoud gets here, I'm going to keep an eye on eBay to see if I can pick up a cheapish dynamo and if I can't I'll run battery lights.
