What's that guys name?
This one ever happen to you? I was riding today and an oncoming rider sits up a bit and points my direction. I look over, I recognize him and say, "hey......" and point back at him. I've known this guy for 50 years and couldnt remember his name. DAVE... His name is Dave. He couldnt remember my name either. Just two guys passing pointing at each other. 😆

This is why I hate attending our cycle club's off-the-bike social events: A room full of handsome well-dressed people, none of whom I recognize...even though I just spent the previous weekend riding with many of them.

I have been known to blurt out "How YOU doin'?" to people I recognize. It sounds like Joey Tribbiani on Friends. IOW, like a d0uch3canoe. Can't help it, I grew up in NY and some verbal habits clung on. Fortunately my women friends know it's not flirting, just this reflexive thing I blurt out. And over time I've managed to rework the emphasis so it's more like "How ya DOIN'!" now, which is slightly less creepy. 
At my daughter's wedding rehearsal I didn't even recognize my brother. Hadn't seen him for a couple of years and he'd somehow managed to keep getting taller. And I was in zombie phase at that point. I think I just mumbled "Fadda of the bride" and shook hands without recognizing him. He understood, though.

And of course, you remember it five minutes into the conversation, so you have to make it a point at the end to say their name, just so they know you do know who they are. No, really, I remembered your name right from the get-go!

Another thing that happens to me is someone going the other way will call out my name and I can't figure out who it was. I've ridden in this area over 30 years with different clubs and groups and I stick out like a sore thumb, so it happens more than you might think. I wish the person would yell their own name, too.
My vision isn't so great, so that doesn't help.

I have ridden with some guys every week for years and couldn't pick them out of a line up in street clothes, but I can describe their bikes: Oh yeah, Rick the guy who rides a red Tarmac with Dura Ace and Zipp 404s.

(When I was in high school in late 1970s we would drive around downtown Nyack, NY on a Friday or Saturday night and yell "Hey Frankie!" at every group of teenagers we passed. Someone always yelled back "What? Who is that?!?")

I don't know names of anything. Roads, cities, towns, people, companies, whatever. A lifelong affliction, so 50+ means nothing. I just go to the white barn and turn left, say "how's it going", and otherwise use generic terms for things. My wife remembers all the things, so we're good.
