I got in a 40 mile ride today. That put me over the 7000 mark YTD (7020). The most I had done before was 6000 in 2017. This is also the 6th year, maybe 7, in a row of surpassing 4000 miles, after having never accomplishing that before. This is only the 2nd year I have ever actually set a miles goal and accurately kept track for the year. My goal is 7320, to give me an average of 20 miles per day for every day of 2020, a leap year. If, 40 years ago, someone told me I would ride 7000 miles in a year when I am 68 years old, I would have thought they were crazy. I am now looking at possibly hitting the 8000 mile mark.
Most of those miles have been on my Lemond Tourmalet and newest bike, a Soma Smoothie. The rest are spread out among 4 other bikes. The farthest I have been from home in those miles is about 30. My longest ride was 78 miles, most days in a row riding is 16, and most days off in a row is 5. At least 95% of the miles have been on pavement, with a few hundred miles on MUPs, and no more than 100 miles off road.
Like so many people, I have had a lot of free time this year. Bicycling has filled a lot of that time and kept me from going bonkers. 47 days left in 2020.

GOOD ON YOU! For the past 3 years I have been averaging around 6000 miles/yr. I started out spending more time on the MTB, but in the past 2 yrs it's gone to almost all road riding. I really like the feel of flying that I can't seem to achieve on my MTB unless I'm crashing down a slope. Keep it up. I turn 71 before end of year so I know where you're coming from.

Man I was feeling good about doing 5000 this year after 3200 last year. But I am still working so that's my excuse.

@Ogsarg, keep on feeling good about the 5000 miles. I still work but more part-time. I drive a school bus and that only uses 4-5 hours a day during a normal school year. I do take off all summer, and, of course, holidays and Christmas and spring break. This year I was off from mid March until mid September. Because of the school situation due to Covid, I am only driving 2 days a week for about 3 hours each day. Enjoy your rides and be safe!

Closing in on 8,000 for the year, and will still get in more riding over the next six weeks, even though it's getting colder. My biggest yearly mileage, but not by a huge margin. It helps to be mostly retired and to have a very busy wife.

Every year my goal is 10,000 miles, but I've never done it yet. In 2017 I got to 9700. Usually, injuries, travel, or other things interfere. I'm at 8300 right now, but with winter well underway in Minnesota, I'm not making my goal this year either.
I have about 1000 Zwift "miles", but those aren't in my tally. The goal is 10k outdoors.

It's been a good year for cycling, that's for sure. For many of us, there's literally nothing else to do. And there seems to be a lot of people with free time to ride. Cycling has been my safe social time as well. And such a decrease in traffic. And my favorite road, the Mt Evans Highway, is closed to autos this year.
My last 7000 mile year was eight years ago at age 55 when I toured across the US, 4500 miles in one trip. This year I'm at about 6000 so far. I'm moving to Tucson in December so I hope to end the year with a bang, maybe end up with 7000. Mt Lemmon, here I come!
Back in the 80s I commuted from Boulder to Arvada, forty miles a day, nearly 200 days a year, for several years. Adding in weekend rides and vacation tours, those were 10,000 mile years. Lots of tires, chains, and freewheels/cassettes in those years, ordered in bulk from Nashbar.

workouts are a different story though. the number of miles in a workout can be crazy high. these miles come from the trainer and i don't get their algorithm, there is certainly work being done but maybe best to consider only about 1/2 distance if any.

I count trainer Zwift and outside miles, yesterday hit 5500 for the year. Thrilled is the word, previous I don't think I ever in my life rode more than 1000 miles in a year. My goal was 4000 and I briefly thought about 6500 but will settle for 6000, which I will get. I still work full time.
I'm putting together a training plan for next year. This is something I never would have thought I would ever do.

I'll hit 8,000 miles in a few days, and expect to be doing some more riding over the next six weeks. I don't mind cold weather.
This is my biggest yearly mileage yet, at 57 yrs old. It helps to only work PT (semi-retired) and even that is mostly from home now - so I can ride when the weather is good.
This pandemic may be hell on my liver, but it's great for my legs.

I just picked up road biking in June and I'm just shy of 1,000 miles. I think my 2021 goal will be 3,500 miles.
