Speaking of PM's.. Did Quarq/SRAM go all in on DUB and ditch the GXP footprint? It looks that way, but I've been reading that DUB is pretty much incompatible with BB86/90 frames (yes, there are DUB BB's for these frames but the bearings are pretty small). So I guess no quarq's for Giants or Treks...

My 2 year old did a great job wearing his mask, honestly. He kept it on for almost an hour and then started to fight about it so we took it down. Seeing my kids having to wear masks just to go get their checkup and vaccines though, there's something about it that's just really depressing, and I don't particularly know why. In the grand scheme of things it seems like it shouldn't matter, but man, it does. I just don't want this to be the world they grow up in I guess, no gymnastics class, no library visits, no story time, no swim lessons. I hate that this stupid country has even managed to turn this political and I'm trying to walk a fine line here and not get this moved.

I wish they still made most race bikes with regular threaded BB options

Square taper is ok but you have to service it and it can wear out. I've never done anything to the Campagnolo Ultra Torque on my Seven in 40,000 miles. The Ultegra 6600 deal on the other bike got cleaned and lubed once in 35,000 miles and it's still quiet/perfect.
When I toured cross country in 1990 I had a cartridge bb. Thing might have been 4 pounds. Anyway it started clunking pretty bad because the outside of it had deformed or worn away from the massive watts applied to it. I borrowed a hammer and I had a screwdriver and I took it apart at a motel and wrapped electrical tape around it and forced it back in. It worked!
One of my friends had his bb come apart and damage the frame. We made it to some small town shop and they were able to get it working somehow.

I think my main affection for the square taper is that it was used for 100 years and, in that time, all cranksets worked with all bikes assuming you had a spindle of appropriate length. Sure there was the ISO vs JIS difference, but you could make one sort of work on the other. There weren't a million standards. Yes, they would round out the crank if they weren't properly torqued and definitely added weight, but all the different standards and lack of backwards compatibility now just annoys me.

Went mountain biking Tuesday. An 8+ mile fire road climb followed by one if the best singletrack descents ever. This is from the fire road part way up.

So, ditching tubular on the TT bike. The old school thin HED 3c is up for sale and the old thin Renn disc also.
The "new to me" HED disc came in mail yesterday. Wow, dude never even looked like he used it! Shiny, beautiful piece of kit. Also, thought I'd have to convert to 11 speed .
Nope, it had the little space ring on the hub. He must have had it on an older bike.
I cannot wait to ride it.

Edit add:
A 22wide tubular has about the same air above the rim and feel as a bigger (maybe 25mm) tubeless or clincher. So you get more give with a lighter tire. On a smooth TT course where the rider is mostly holding speed and mostly going straight, that shock absorbing and weight is less an issue. Then for exotic stuff, a silk case tubular like what FMB (and others) make is not going to be beat by any standard mfg casing for feel and road holding on a dry road.

Another pic from today. Fury guy is my Lt Dan riding with Richard. Both LUX alum
I stopped to take the pic to avoid the level of embarrassment I'd have even as an old fat guy being passed at 2X my speed.
