That thing is gorgeous! I particularly like the chrome bands on the seat tube, reminiscent of the 1960s Specialissimas. All of my bicycles are now "vintage," but I always get a special kick out of riding the oldest of the bunch, the 1959 Capo (top tube brake cable clamps and all ), as I did today.

The Ambrosio rims that came on my Bianchi were fitted with a 23c tires which were fine for those rims, but a little too narrow for my taste.
Do you think the 32 Compass Stamped Pass tires would work with the Ambrosio rims? Sorry, just trying to see what I can do with the stock build... thanks!

Yes, they will work. Not optimum, but they will work.

Tire width can be tricky. I have Specialized Armadillos which run true to size, or even a bit larger, but I have Continental 700Cx28s, which are about 25 mm wide, on the Bianchi, a frame which cannot take a full-size 28 mm tire front or rear.

I verified with Bianchi that 28s will be fine on the stock Ambrosio rim. For anything wider, they recommend a wider rim (pretty much what Oldairhead said). I wonder how those H Plus Son archetypes would work (in polished silver of course)...

You seem to really like the Compass line, but allow me to recommend Challenge P-R Good classic look, fine riding tires.

Funny you said that... I was just looking at those before I logged in here... Look nice. Apparently Compass tires run a little narrow and Challenges run a bit wide... Decisions, decisions...

Done!

Thanks to Oldairhead's review of the bike and actually seeing one in person, I went ahead and ordered one myself! Pretty excited... I also ordered a set of Compass 700C x 28 Chinook Pass tires. Should be plush enough. I had the Grand Bois Cerfs before and these are supposed to be more supple than those (which I loved).

Uh oh! Did you read my disclaimer on product endorsements?

I hope that you enjoy the bike as much as I have. Please follow up with your own impressions after you get to know her. We will be waiting!

Ha! Thanks for the inspiration... some of my motivation had to do with my lack of training for this year's Eroica and wanting a bike with more gearing! I was already standing on the edge and you just nudged me over

Definitely has room for 32s but I am glad I went with 28s on these rims. The bike is very stiff and transfers power very, very well... It came with Vittoria Zaffiro Pros in size 23, which is way too narow for Eroica. I swapped out the generic cheap pedals for MKS. Spin much better now. Bike with pedals (size 55) weighs about 22.7 lbs! Not bad at all... just removing the Brooks would knock it down a half pound!

A pic of the complete bike...

I can't stop riding this bike... Excellent power transfer and the tires make it feel oh-so-plush...

They are nice.

Just in case anyone might be interested, I have a new Bianchi Eroica frameset, size 57, in a box in storage. Won it at this year's Eroica event auction but have no immediate plans for it, although I have acquired all the parts for a Nuovo Record Pat 78 build.

Bianchi believes that people will buy these bare frames and build them up with their own choice of components, and apparently they have been moving quite briskly at a retail price of $3,000.

Bianchi is asking $3k for the frame,

Wow. Sweet frame though. It takes long reach brakes right? It's my size but I ain't buying nothing . . .

I think it takes mediums- like 47-57 mm size. Comes with a nice headset installed, too.

Not in a hurry, lots of projects going on.
