Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

We had a good ride. I chose to let the faster guys go, and rode with the slower group. It was a social pace which allowed me to soak in more of the beautiful spring Chester County landscapes. Truly stunning. Our (ugh!) average speed was about 2.5 MPH slower than the lead group, but I think my group had more fun.

With all the discussion of wedding rings, now I'm getting jewelry ads. Nobody better start talking about bowel troubles.

I like how scuffed up mine is on the outside but still bright and shiny on the inside

Just thought of something, I should really have a bike that matches my Ti wedding ring, right?

I mean, I do ride without gloves fairly often in the summer so it's clearly visible.

Mrs. GeneJockey tells me she was looking for something like crib pad as a dog bed. Next thing she knows, she's getting ads for baby stuff all over the place.

So as an experiment, she googled "Baby coffins"

And it stopped.

So, uh, what does that say about me taking off a ring that looks brand new in favor of one that's a little smaller and much more flexible?

It says you prefer to have a ring that is a little smaller and much more flexible.

I have to blame ls01 for my ride troubles - after commenting on his poor luck with his Michelins, I took a pretty ugly cut to mine about 25 minutes in to my ride. It wasn't sealing on its own, so I shoved in a bacon strip and pumped it back up. That held air fine, but I was already lukewarm about riding in the gray, damp cold, so this didn't help my enthusiasm. I decided to cut it short and head back home, since I have plenty to do today, anyway.

Back tyre on the Ellsworth is dry so I went down to the LBS for some Orange Seal but they only had Spec 2Bliss goop for a buck an ounce if you buy 26 oz and some homegrown goop, the homegrown goop was cheaper so I went for it. Hopefully it's better than my last 2 forays into lesser-known goops (Slime Tubeless Sealant and Effetto Mariposa Caffe Latex (IIRC).

Their website is down, hopefully they're too busy mixing up batches of goop to be webmastering

And the poor Schwinn needs a new rear derailleur loop (it was already asploded when I got it). Luckily I got that set of 10 for $5.00 a while ago (AND it looks like they threw in a bonus one). Unfortunately they're not white

Well, poop.

Mrs. GeneJockey and The Boys will NOT be getting their first shots tomorrow. The vax clinic called and said, "Sorry, we only have SECOND doses". Apparently there's a glitch in their software that didn't register the fact that Mrs. GJ had answered "No" to "Have you had a first dose?". The vax clinic apologized, but didn't then offer other appointments.

Grrrr....

43°C, at 4 PM.
On Friday afternoon we will be standing out in the sun awaiting our second shot. Umbrella and water will be in order. Last month, for the first shot, we were in line for four hours, but only the first two out in the sun. Being in the straggler category, we don't have official appointments. Show up at noon. It's the closest this privileged white boy has come to feeling what racism feels like.

On a side note, the pumps for the public water system are down. A few homes are getting a few drops a day. We are getting none. Thankfully we have a cistern, and a deep well. This evening, after it cools down some, we will fill the nearly empty cistern from the well. Five communities are affected. The parts are available, in Monterrey. Five days shipping time. Apparently they cannot be put onto an airplane.

I hear ya. My old house was 1100 sqrft. huge compared to the one I looked at yesterday. Looking @ another on Friday almost 1200. Better garage and finished basement. Well see.

That happens. When I was in Ca. On vacation once, a kid and his dog jumped out if the weeds onto the paved trail in front of me. I locked up the rear brake for just a half a nanosecond.. Burned right down to the cords!! That tire was bought just for the trip. Maybe 300 miles on it.. I was fuming mad.

I can beat that.

Brand spanking new Vredestein Fortezzas, back when they were among the very best clinchers out there. FIRST ride on them. <100 yards from my front door, broken glass on the shoulder that I couldn't see till I was in it. *BANG! FffFfffFffFFffffffffff* 1/4" cut in the casing all the way through.
