Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Built it up bit by bit, starting with the frame:

OMG, ok....

Both of these were built from the frame up. Fred vs Hipster.
Looking to build up another classic steel frame now.

Another occasion to post it again...

Built it myself, including wheels. Bought components at different places and times.

Piece by piece, a 35 year effort, one part at a time on a low low budget, starting when I was about a minute out of college.
In it's past life it was an early 70s Gitaine Tour de France.

Sometime in the next 5 years I'll get a black seatpost and a red chain.

Piece it together is the only way I can afford a bike for myself. So here is my current ride that was finished just a couple weeks ago:

I want to up grade a couple items - a different seat, and different brakes then i'll be happy.

I've pieced together all my current bikes, minus a folder and a 3sp.
CAAD9, rossin, and this.

Since I love excuses to post pic of my bike, and my bike qualifies...

I bought the Tsunami frameset, Toupe saddle, and Speedplay pedals off ebay. From the old bike came the 8 spd era Ultegra brakes and FD, Nashbar crank, 10 spd brifters and RD, and Forte wheelset. The TTT bar came from Cambria Bike, and I later added an Alpha Q carbon seatpost off craigslist and a Ritchey Pro stem off Ebay.

Also qualifying...

Built in 1995 from a frame/fork bought at Bikesport (LBS). The rims and spokes were bought from Wheel World (LBS) and laced to Sachs front and White Industries rear hubs found at a bike swap meet. The Dura Ace brakes were also found at a bike swap meet. The Ultegra brifters/derailleurs, Look pedals, Syncros stem, TTT bar, and Scott Rakes came off the previous build. The Grafton cranks, American Classic seatpost, and headset were also swapped over but were first custom anodized along with the rims. The Avocet O2 saddle and Corrotec tires were obtained at Interbike, and Salsa Skewers were ordered from Colorado Cyclist (I think).

Always happy to take up an opportunity to post:

Frame/fork from BikeIsland. All components from the garage and picked the Mavic wheels up on ebay for 80 bones. It's got speedplays and some different bars on it now, but I was really impressed with the build, especially for the price!!
