Bike theft in Japan

Here's a little something I found on this site: https://www.livejournal.com/~bigmog/

bike busted
Steady readers will recall that a month or two ago my bike was stolen and then generously returned to me several weeks later. Now this story has another chapter. I was busted for stealing my own bicycle.
Having no faith in the Japanese police, I didn't bother to cancel the stolen bike report. It turns out that they're a lot better at finding bikes than I anticipated. In fact, they had an undercover cop staking out my bike just waiting for the perpetrator (me) to return. After I identified myself and explained the story, I was able to file the proper report and go on my way. Another lesson learned.

Doesn't that sound like a dream come true? Too bad they don't take bike theft so seriously in the US...

How come it seems to me that you can't imagine anything more funny than Japanese police? I take it that we'll never see a hit TV show about these creatures.
