Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tangentially related to cooking - I like keeping an eye on the buy/sell/trade section on the knife forum. It's interesting to see what kind of stuff pops up. Right now is evidently an exciting time as multiple "unicorns" are popping up with price tags in the $3000+ region. I can look at some of them and immediately understand the asking price, but others are just head-scratchers.

Probably.
Belize isn't going anywhere. It's only an eight hour drive to the border.

Well. I stayed with the fast bois.

Then I cracked my bike, my wheel, my glasses, and I'm in the ER awaiting stitches.

I have a saddle sore. Should I
  1. Use Chamois Butt'r?
  2. Burn my shorts and wash my entire body with hexachlorophene daily until it goes away?
  3. See a crotchologist about a biopsy?
  4. HTFU?
  5. STFU?

Many years ago when I first started riding and leather chamois were the norm, I’d get the occasional saddle sore. At the time, there was a “drawing salve” formula that was purported to be the quickest way to get rid of one.

I tried it a few times and eventually entered the cure into the annals of folk lore remedies.

THE Antiseptic Baby and the Prophylactic Pup
Were playing in the garden when the Bunny gamboled up;
They looked upon the Creature with a loathing undisguised;—
It wasn't Disinfected and it wasn't Sterilized.
They said it was a Microbe and a Hotbed of Disease;
They steamed it in a vapor of a thousand-odd degrees;
They froze it in a freezer that was cold as Banished Hope
And washed it in permanganate with carbolated soap.
In sulphurated hydrogen they steeped its wiggly ears;
They trimmed its frisky whiskers with a pair of hard-boiled shears; 10
They donned their rubber mittens and they took it by the hand
And elected it a member of the Fumigated Band.
There's not a Micrococcus in the garden where they play;
They bathe in pure iodoform a dozen times a day;
And each imbibes his rations from a Hygienic Cup—
The Bunny and the Baby and the Prophylactic Pup.
