And you continue your tiresome personal attacks. You have to realize that many people including me have other ideas than you do.

I'm seeing a lot of families and couples out riding bicycles now due to the coronavirus situation. Many of them not wearing helmets. It is interesting that in a lot of cases the children have helmets on but the parents don't. I guess the adults think that nothing bad will likely happen to them. I won't even leave my driveway w/o my helmet on.

Just looked up your state law. Helmets are only mandatory for under 12 years old.

To be honest, if I'm riding slow enough for a child to keep pace, I'd be tempted to not wear a helmet. I probably would still wear it, but I'd be tempted, knowing that the risks are a lot lower than they are at the normal speeds I operate.

True story: My buddy and I, way back in the late 80s, were coming home from another friend's house. He was driving, I was in the passenger seat. I don't know what prompted it, but I had my motorcycle helmets with me, or he asked me to bring them, I forget.

Anyway, sitting at a light in pretty heavy traffic near the end of rush hour. We managed to be stopped at the front at a light, 4 lanes N-S, 6 lanes E-W. We both grab a motorcycle helmet and put it on while we're sitting through the red. We look around, and everyone stopped has noticed this (this was in the days before cell phones!).

Light changes, we take off.

.....every other car at the intersection sits there and waits until we are well clear before they move. We were probably 100+ yards through the other side before anyone started rolling through.

Good times.
Probably thot you were cops in an unmarked car!!!

No points for comparison to motorcycle helmets, totally different probabilities because of speed. You need to point to something a bicyclist is likely to encounter where a hard shell would provide better protection.

BTW, the fact that no one sells a hard shell bike helmet even though it looks stronger (marketing appeal) reflects that the science is so clear on this that anyone selling them would be liable for the inevitable brain injuries that would result.
But see that would be where you are wrong. In a fall if your head would hit a sharp object it would go right thru todays thin candy shell helmets and the foam. With the lexan shell there would be no penetration and no injury.

If you were stopped because a taillight was out on your car the fine would be $65. A cyclist without a helmet sticks out like a sore thumb. There aren't many of them, but were it illegal I can well imagine the fine for not wearing one would be >$300 for a first occurrence, ~$1000 for a second, and that is far more likely the genesis of any proposed legislation vs overwhelming concern for a very small percent of a very small percent of road users. When in doubt, always follow the money.
Well stated. It always boils down to money. Elected b'crats are ALWAYS looking to increase their revenue stream.

But really----------a $1000 fine for not wearing a helmet. Talk about cruel and unusual punishment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FWIW, the Bell Tourlite bicycle helmet did *NOT* have a lexan shell. Really. Ever. Ever. Still.

So I'm all set if the coyote drops an anvil on my head?

Guess you missed the part where I said it had to be something a bicyclist would actually likely encounter.

Well, you now have no credibility:

Not true. Google Bell Tourlite bike helmets, and you will find that indeed those helmets back in the 80s DID have the hard lexan shell.

I wore one for years. Don't need no damn google. They did not have a lexan shell.

I don't get the fetish for really bad helmets. I really don't.

p.s. Googled that stuff. You know what I come up with? You, AND ONLY YOU, claiming the Bell Tourlite had a lexan shell.

(It was ABS plastic.)

I think the confusion might be that Bell did make a Lexan shell helmet called the "Biker" in the 1970s:

https://books.google.com/books?id=es...20bell&f=false

https://books.google.com/booksid=wSMYAwAAQBAJ&pg=PT67&lpg=PT67&dq=lexan+bicycle+helmet+bell&source=bl&ots=h0Mwaa_bZZ&sig=ACfU 3U3FEqbLkkHM2qwS5Jt96eD2KyWgWQ&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj-_a_HovroAhWqgnIEHXtXA-wQ6AEwE3oECAwQAQ#v=onepage&q=lexan%20bicycle%20helmet%20bell&f=false

Briefly, in the 1970s. BTW, did you know the clear lego pieces are made of, wait for it, Lexan.

(P.S. The Bell Tourlite motorcycle helmet of the 1980s was made of, wait for it, fiberglass.)

(P.P.S. Any guess how many current high end Bell Motorsports helmets are made of, wait for it, death crabon fibre?)

Maybe Rydabent would like a Lego bike helmet?

If I ever find a bar with a helmet trivia night, I'll be sure to PM you about it.
