Did 32 miles up north. Definitely the last "after work" ride of the season. Was dark by 5:45 - cold too (mid-40s)

Originally planned to ride from Duvall to North Bend on the SRT after seeing Matt's recent pics, but that will have to wait another day or so as I got a late start (read: slept in). Instead, I got in about 45 on the road to Issaquah and back.

Finally got some fall color pics after all! Enjoy.

This past Saturday I made the drive up to Branford, CT to meet with Sir_Name and his pal for a scenic autumn ride through some coastal areas and rolling hills. Normally this month would have been our annual trek to J.P. Weigle's French Fender Day but alas in '20 twas not to be. The weather was mild albeit misty and cloudy for most of the day. The ride began with an unexpected and picturesque stretch of hike-a-bike then we were back on the roads, I on my Fuji Ace, Bob on his Woodrup and Eric on his Nishiki International. A really enjoyable 72ish mile ride as always and with luck next year we will return to FFD. Here are just a few photos of the day.

Muchly the same roads and hardpack. E-bikes for the inactive is the fastest growing visuals I get on trails. Gets them out.

Made my way over to Alki Beach and enjoyed the sun and watching a bit of volleyball. Beautiful day.

October was a great commuting month, 188 miles, 13,984 feet of climbing; great for me, at least. My old mountain bike has been a real champ.

I've said it before and I'll probably say it again, "This bike just CANNOT go slowly."

Also, as usual, I have no photos of the ride - a very foggy day down by the beach.

Like SurferRosa, above, I also got to watch some volleyball. Being Halloween, many players were in costumes. Wonder Woman was there, too. :-)

Cracked off an 81-miler. Wanted to do some late fall exploring, so I rode up to Hawthorne Woods. Low 30s at the start, mid-50s and sun by the end. 25 miles of ripping headwinds coming home. Last Halloween, it snowed several inches, so I can't complain.

Had to pass through Mundelein which seems stuck in the late 60s.



Fair Haven is an area in Mundelein and this is the bowling alley.



Still lots of good fall color, but the leaves are really coming down.

Saw tons of good Halloween decorations and lots of people had set out treats. I was severely tempted by this, which showed up around mile 57. I was running out of gas, but wanted to leave then for the kids.



Went by a business with 7-8 rotting BMW 2002 carcasses behind it. Hard to get photos, but they were all in similar condition. Too bad, they're a classic!

And of course the reward is often at the end of the ride. On football Sunday. That’s a grilled brat, smothered in baked beans, a touch of cheese scalloped potatoes, cole slaw. Yum.

Made a run to Beaverton to pick up some banh mi sandwiches. Swung by Universal Cycles to pick up some brake levers. Haven’t grown fond of the Carlton/Weinmanns.



Sort of a weird suburbia exploration, but it was fun. I’ve driven on 26 countless times without realizing that a great bike path runs right along side it!

Every so often I get the urge to ride around Mount Tamalpais, at 2,572 feet the tallest landmark in the county where I live. There are a number of different routes around it, both on pavement and on dirt. This time I chose a combination: 21 miles of dirt and 36 miles of asphalt.

Getting an early start, I climbed out of the coastal fog in about 5 miles.




Thanks to the early start I had the mountain almost to myself for the first couple hours. In this photo looking south you can just make out the white dome on the west peak in the distance.

Home in time for a second lunch! 5,200 feet of climbing is good for the appetite.

Had a fun day out with Jacob and Matt on the Snoqualmie Valley Trail today. Matt rode out from North Bend to Duvall (where Jacob and I started from) to meet up, then we all rode together to North Bend. We actually had to make an emergency pit stop at Matt's place because my headset somehow loosened up; no problems two weekends ago on the substantially worse surface of the Iron Horse Trail. By the way, the SVT is a super trail. The trail surface seems more like chipseal or even smooth pavement along much of the route and I think I counted less than 10 potholes along the entire length. I must utilize this gem more often!

We rode and chatted and once the mechanical was seen to had lunch at the Riverbend Cafe. I didn't get a photo of my food, but did enjoy a superb French dip with a salad. Plenty of fuel to get me back home. Matt guided us back to the SVT at the Tokul Tunnel and from there on out it was about 1.5 hours back to the start in Duvall for me and Jacob. Just short of 50 miles for the day according to Jacob's Strava.

^ Nice shots, Dude! None of the ones I took were any good, out of focus and somehow I had video switched on by accident on many of them. I blame the bulky winter gloves.

It's supposed to begin raining and getting colder the next few days, so I took advantage of 60 degrees and dry to bang in a quick 25 miles this afternoon. Rare day out for the Colnago Mexico as I've been favoring the Casati and Bianchi this past year.
