Road Bike Saddles?
Hey all,
Been reading up lately on these forums! I just got my newest road bike about a month and a half ago, a Scattante R660 (Ultegra STI equipped).
I currently have a Forte Pro SLX saddle, but the embroidery is beginning to rip up my shorts. What do you suggest I do? I am thinking of getting a new saddle, but frankly there are SO many choices, and I was wondering which saddle would be anatomically the best.
Thanks

You need to get a saddle that fits YOU!
The only way to do that is to try them until you find one that works for you. My old saddle ruined a pair of shorts too. I bought the stock saddle off one of my friends who just bought a new one. I'm going to see how long I can stand this one before I cave in and buy a new one.

The SLX saddle you have is my favorite so far believe it or not! I have never had an issue with shorts wearing out because of their design; had it two years now. I really like that saddle.

I've yet to buy a saddle for either of ny 2 "new" bikes. The design of your's has appeal,my Selle Italias are designed rounder, they make me numb. For now, perhaps 'till I condition my butt the Italias won't do. San Marco has saddles your design, on sale at Nashbar, others too. Terry has some choices, even if they don't appeal to you, the site and comparisons will. Saan Marco has had the Regal for many years as well the original flat but dished saddle. Funny, when they used to have reviews on the Perf. site, I'd read of the wearing-out the shorts logo problem. www.terrybicycles.com

Saddles are something that you need to decide for yourself, like, the color of your bike or something. Everybody's built differently but the general consensus of great saddles are F'izik Ariones, Selle Italia SLRs, Brooks B17s, and Specialized Toupes (and probably some others that I don't remember).
If you find your Forte saddle to be comfy and preferable, then I would suggest getting something similar in consistency, shape and size, but with smoother embroidery to prolong your short's life.

I have a Forte saddle also, the embroidering is rough because its nylon thread and the ends are sharp.
All you have to do is take a single edge razor blade and shave off the embroidery and it will fuzz up and not be harsh anymore

I just got the Specialized Alias (new version) I love it. My advice is soft cushy gel saddles if all you are every going to do is short rides, say 15-30 minutes. If you plan on longer rides stay away from that stuff. You will be extremely sore! On the soft saddles your sit bones will sink into the padding and you will be supported by the soft tissue. Soon you'll either start having alot of pain or numbness.
Here is a link to an article that has a lot of usefull information about saddle types and adjustments. But the general opinion is that everyone has to find a saddle for themselves. No two butts are alike, and what works for some doesn't work for others.

Thanks, but I usually do rides ranging from 40-70, and I'm planning to do a century soon.

My specialized tarmac came with a Toupe saddle. It's the only one I've ever ridden but surprising comfortable on the 30-50 mile rides I've been on.

Give the Brooks B-17 a chance. Once you go Brooks, you never go back.
