What Does Your Username Mean?

Just curious, especially those of you who don't use any part of your real name as your user name. What and why did you pick your BF name?

Me First!

I used Joey Brooks (not my real name) because of high school baseball. I was a pretty fair third baseman and a fellow named Brooks Robinson played for the Orioles at the time at third base. Guys on my team started calling me Brooks, and it stuck.

As for Joey, that's a nickname given to me by my family long as I can remember.

I never post my real name on the Internet.

OK! Fill me in on yours if you will!

EDIT: Funny, MY user name here is JoeyBike, not Joey Brooks! My bad. joeybike (all lower case) was invented by me in 1994 with the acquisition of my very first email account because my first ten choices were already taken. Ironically, I registered as Joey Brooks - not my real name - and have ever since. When I signed up here, JoeyBike was a no brainer.

Comes from being a poor sport, specifically, while playing tourney paintball.

When my teammates started calling me "Truman" - I assumed it was because I was decent at closing out a match, or something.

Turns out it was because I was always the first one to drop an F-Bomb when things went ugly.

I've used canyoneagle on any forums I've been involved in for several years.

The name stems from two of the things I find most inspiring, Red rock canyons and eagles, and also reflects my partial Native American blood.

Mine, Wanderer, was given to me by my wife and grandchildren. The nickname was quickly picked up by my friends, and I even have WNDERR for plates on my Godlwing.

Basically, because I spend so much time wandering over the US and Canada, on my motorcycle.

The fact that my wife's name is Jane, to go with the song, seemed to matter a bit, too....

Current and previous motorcycle were a Harley Dynaglide. Had a Convertable, still own a Sport. The Y in 'ryder' is from an old friend from back in the days of Usenet who was Ye Olde Wylde Ryder.

As much as I like riding, I like sailing. Nothing beats the daily 15-25kt winds in the SF Bay.

Your were born in 047? Is the 0 to distinguish 47 from 1947? I mean, if you're almost two millenia old, you should be condsidered a VERY SENIOR MEMBER...

I always walk my mtn bike up this really steep fire trail near where I live. 3 years of cycling later, I'm still walking my bike up the same hill.

I actually stole my name from Walfredo Reyes Jr. The drummer for El Rayo X at one time among countless other credits. Also phish plays a song about him called "Walfredo".

I'm not a drummer myself but I'm the son of a drummer like Walfredo Jr. Plus I just like the name.

I use it on a few other forums I frequent, so apparantly the real Walfredo isn't in to golf and cycling.

Mine is from a forum when I was fostering a German Shepherd that had obvious problems. Needed help with the little guy before we could adopt him out. Eating poo was one of his funnier habits, but he needed real help, so I went to that forum.

Franz Grillparzer was an 19th century Austrian playwright who battled censorship when he sharply criticized Austrian royalty, the military, and the Catholic Church in several works. As noble as all of that sounds, I wanted an email address that didn't have numbers in it when I first went on line in 1996. At the time, grillparzer@yahoo.com hadn't been picked by anyone else.

Jim from Boston. D'uh. Sherbornpeddler once addressed me as James de Boston; wish I had thought of that.

My real first name is Jim and I'm an avid talk show fan. When I (rarely) call in, I'm introduced as "...and now here's Jim from Boston..." Because a popular host occasionally rants about bicyclists, when I E-mail him or that station, I sign my posts as Jim from Boston, "Your Number One Fan among Boston's Bicycle Commuters."

BTW, Joey, this summer you posted some comments about hill-climbing to a thread inquiring how to get faster. I picked up some good tips, and combined with my new I-pod, I'm mashing hills like never before. Thanks and a tip o' the hat.
