It isn't necessarily the qualities of the rider that may make those things noticeable so much as it's what the person is using the bike for. A lot of people ride their bikes 15-20 non-demanding miles a week, and are perfectly fine riding stuff you and I would probably find miserable. Just the fact that you're here posting shows you care about bikes way more than the average cyclist.
