Almost no bikes here are about "need" only about "want", especially as you pass n + 1. Ride what you want, ride what feels good.

It was a squeeze play from back in the day when people rode inferior quality bikes like LHT's because they didn't know better.

Now, by my reckoning; steel is real, wood is good, Al (A-ell) is swell and carbon... doesn't rhyme with anything so... it can't be used in poetic bike speak easily.

right! What's important to those roadies is how others look. That's why we need to dress our best- to impress others as we pull up to the group ride.
vanity is its important here.

I wouldn't buy a carbon bike even if they cost half the price of steel or aluminium bike, I wouldn't even put a carbon bottle cage on my steel bike.

Man I'm glad I never feel so self righteous that I feel a need to inflict my opinion online about someone else's purchasing choices (unless asked first).

And yeah, I have a CF roadie......Also a steel roadie, and an aluminum hardtail mtb.

I had a sodium bike, but it spontaneously exploded.
Everyone asked, "Was that carbon?"

The material doesn't matter. If it did not come with pedals, there will be beef and much laughter!

The OP is correct. So called CF bikes are in reality plastic bikes. They are carbon fiber reinforced plastic. Not much of a fan of CF bikes since they are so delicate. Given the money my choice would the a titanium frame bike.

BTW there are examples of 100 year old steel frame bikes around. IMO one of todays plastic bikes will simply disintegrate long before it is 100 years old. The simple fact is plastic drys up and get brittle after a short time.

You're all wrong
Steel is for making nails and anvils
Aluminum is for making beer cans and mobile home siding
Carbon fiber is for fishing poles and tennis rackets

Most people here won't keep their bike 100 years. Most won't keep their bike but a few years before selling it.

Which compose probably about 0.001% of bikes that were made more than 100 years ago. Know where the rest are? Rusted.

Yeah, I thought those plastic Mardigras beads were supposed to last 29,000 years at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico?

McDonald's forks are supposed to last five hundred million years in the landfill.

How is it that crabon bikes melt in less than 100 years? Aren't diamonds made of carbon schmarbon?
