I have a new plan
At age 73 I have a new strategy. In the past I've thought if I could just get a bit stronger or develop my climbing technique or........I could get as fast as the 50 year olds. Now I've seen the light. I'm focusing on holding my place and waiting for them to age.

They'll never catch up with you, if that's what you're hoping.

You need more older cyclists in your neck 'o th woods. Then you can pick the off the weak/large ones (maybe?)! And finish with the pack.
For me, I've become a great drafter of wheels, but I'm only in my 69th year. In 4 years I'll be beating the 50yo cyclists, in my dreams.

I'm looking forward rather than back, chasing this guy:

Problem is, he keeps raising the bar.

Monsieur Marchand is my hero because he does as much as he can as long as he can. I try to do the same even I'm a mere lad of 80 y.o.

That's what I've been doing. It works. Keep at it. Most of 'em will give up, get lazy, get fat, decide they're old, get injured, or something like that. You go. Don't look back, you won't even see 'em in your mirror.
