Here's the run down. I have a 2007 jamis nova frame. I found a great deal on some take off parts that came from a 2011 or 2012 Salsa fargo 3. I need to know which if any of these parts would work for my frame.
Shift Levers Microshift bar-end
Front Derailleur Shimano Deore
Rear Derailleur Shimano Deore 9 spd
Crankset FSA Alpha Drive Trekking
Bottom Bracket FSA PowerSpline

You need to measure the bb vs frame, although being road, both should be 68mm.

Get yourself a vernier caliper as this will be very useful in measuring parts to confirm fit.

I do plan on running drop bars, and eventually would like to move from the bar end shifters to shimano brifters.

As for the seat tube diameters that info should be available from the bikes' respective archives right?

As for the bb if both are the external bb's shouldn't it simply be a matter of using the proper spacers?

Seat tube diameter is rarely in a bike's specs. The measurement for the front derailleur is usually marked on the inside of the clamp, but you existing frame's seat tube diameter needs to be measured. If they don't match, you can shim the seat tube if it's smaller than the clamp. If it's larger, trade it for the correct size. You can shim a too-small seat tube with a short section of PVC pipe if needed.

Both bikes use the same bottom bracket dimensions and thread. The take-off parts should go right on to your Jamis.

Thanks for the replies and the info on the bb was very useful. Sadly the guy I was going to buy the parts from this morning informed me that he sold them to a co-worker instead. Can't blame him I mean much safer and simpler dealing with a co-worker vs a random person from craigslist.

Okay so I know its been a while..........like forever really, but I have finally made some serious progress building this bike. At the present the bike has the following components:

2007 jamis nova frame(used) -$100
Cane Creek s-13 headset (new old stock)-$30
Tektro Mini-v Brakes(new) - $20
Oval Concepts mtb bar(take-off) - $10
Oval Concepts stem(take-off) - $5
Shimano Alivio 3x9 Shifters(take-off) - $20
Avid fr-5 brake levers(new) - $20
Carbon Wrapped seatpost(used) - $15
Ergon large Grips(returns) - $10
Shimano deore rd(used) - $10
Mavic Aksyium wheelset w/vittoria zaffiro tires and 9speed cassette (almost new) - $75
Specialized bg revival saddle(take-off) - $5


I am still missing a crankset/bb and a front derailleur. I plan on posting pics of it soon.

The final question I have for the build is about the fd. I need a fd that is for 3x9 setup but I don't know if it needs to be a top or bottom swing? If it helps the cable pull is a bottom pull and the tube diameter is 28.6.

One problem I see in your parts list is the use of Tektro Mini-V brakes with the Avid FR5 levers. Those levers are "long pull" and designed for use with full size "V-brakes". The Mini-V's are designed for road (shorter cable pull) levers. The levers will work but will require higher than normal hand pressure for a given stopping effort.

I know I will have less braking power than if I was running regular v-brakes, but until I actually have the bike running I won't know how much of a difference. I'm hoping it won't be too bad.

So finally I was able to get some pics uploaded!!

The swing direction isn't that important, personally I'd go with a bottom swing unless the clamp interferes with the bottle cage bolts. What is important is that you use a MTB FD because your front shifter is indexed and that it matches your chainring sizes and chainstay angle.

Given the picture of the downtube is there any reason why a top swing fd wouldn't work in because of the cage bolts?
