Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2002 105 compatible with 2018 Sora shifters?

Hi there,

I have a 2002 Specialized running original an original 105 2x9 groupset that requires new shifters. I'm wondering if I can use the new 2018 Sora R3000 shifters with my current groupset? I can see they have internal cables rather than the external cabling on the 105 shifters, and I'm also concerned about the pull ratio. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Yes, Shimano Sora R3000 series is compatible with older 9 speed Shimano parts such as your 105 5500 parts.

I believe the rear derailleur is compatible but front is not because the r3000 uses the high leverage style front derailleur from 11 speed group
