Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

13 is unlucky. Might as well ride under a ladder in front of a black cat.

I think the prices are INSANE for these groups...…. For what these are you could go electronic on a standard.....

The Rotor groupset is hydraulic, and those prices include a 13spd compatible wheelset( some include a powermeter too).

I have a bike with a 2x10 drivetrain. I just got new wheels for it with the wrong kind of hub. It has a 7-speed freewheel. I tried them just to see if I want to go ahead with my 650B conversion. Well, I do like it, so I will keep the rims and tires. My plan was to rebuild the drivetrain so I have 8 or 9 speeds in the back. And I notice that even though the shifting is wonky, I'm perfectly fine with having only 7 speeds in back.

Nuvinci has an infinite number of gears. Pair that with a compact double & you have double infinity.

I think I need to go for a ride on my fixie. I would like to know what hydraulic shifting feels like and how you set it up.

Hydraulic shifting is a solution in search of a problem.

That doesn't change the fact that 12spd is already obsolete.

Not sure "obsolete" means what you think it means. ( not to be taken too seriously.)

Imo, anything more than 2 x 10 is "obsolete" ... added expense and about zero benefit. Id much rater have electronic shifting and hydro brakes than more cogs.

You can have both electronic shifting, hydraulic brakes, and still get more gears.

No you can't.
Just like you can't have an aero bike and also ride in an aero position.
Or be a light rider and also have a light bike.

Yeah. I'm loving the combination. About to go for a lunch ride in the sun - this really doesn't happen much here.

I think New York just put laxative in the water to help people on heavy bikes make it up hills.

I have worked with the crew at Rotor for a few years now. We had a lot of good talks with them at CABDA about this group and the wheel needs. I am looking forward to working with them on some of their wheel needs for this group.

I honestly feel there is a lot of potential for the group in cross/gravel/adventure and offroad scenarios. Electronic and traditional cable systems have advantages and disadvantages in a lot of scenarios. This system is no different. This particular group has the ability to shine in conditions that some of the others just barely survive in.

We can debate it all day but time will tell. All this being said I don't have one of the groups in my hand and haven't ridden on it. It's a steep hill for them to climb if they want general market acceptance, but I loudly applaud their efforts to help make sure we aren't always servants of our 3 component overlords.
