Two year anniversary - E-tandem conversion
Two years ago and nearly 12,000 miles ago we converted our 2011 Calfee tandem to an E-tandem. With help from the then technical manager at Calfee we made the conversion. The conversion was reasonably straight forward especially with the assistance that I received from Calfee.
Needless to say we are thrilled with the results, we have “0” plans of ever going back to none power assisted. We live in Central Illinois and it is always windy, we no longer are concerned with the wind, we ride where my stoker wants to go.
We have not had any issues with the motor, battery, chains, cassettes or any other component.
A true enhancement!

As I recall you are using the bafang mid drive correct? What kind of range are you getting?

You are correct, we are using the Bafang BBSHD motor with a 52 volt 14 ah battery. With a 90% charge we can go 50 miles at level one and two. With a 100% charge we can go around 60 miles.

I'm thinking of having Calfee modify a non-tandem (my wife's bike). One of the attractions for us is the ability to switch back and forth easily just by removing the wheel and battery pack. Assuming your conversion is similar, it is good to hear a happy customer. Our rides average about 3000 ft of climbing, so the conditions differ from central Ill. Do you foresee any issues?
