Would you prefer if they rolled them out under a different brand name?

Most of the automobile companies have a electric option. Why not bicycle companies?

I'd only hope that we get better defined names for them that delineate what is required to be pedal assisted and what is not required to be pedal assisted.

I would have thought this has been true for the best part of a decade. Have you only just noticed?

It's a business. Unless they want to lose sales to other companies which do offer e-bikes, they must offer them in order to stay in business.
E-bike sales are going up, at least from what I read, and from what I see many more riding these days, so just makes good sense to offer what people buy, at least if you wish to turn a profit.

So exactly what is the question here? Are companies selling products that people are buying? Yes they are selling products and they are products people are buying. It is amazing how they aren't still selling the same bikes they sold in the 1900s, how time moves on somehow. Or is it "are companies innovating" Yes they are, and it is still amazing they aren't selling the same bikes from the 1900s.

Electric bikes are a growing segment of the market and have seen steady growth were traditional non-electric bikes have seen a bit more flattening. They saw a brief boost in the early part of the endemic but now they have sort of flatlined and are not seeing that growth anymore.

Also many of these brands have had e-bikes for a while. I think Specialized started in 2012 or so, Scott was 2011, Gazelle did their first e-bike back in 1936, Giant had an electric bike in 2001, GT had one in the 90s...none of this is new. Bosch started doing e-bike stuff in 2009, Yamaha started in the 90s...

I remember when the snobby world of audio high fidelity was shunning things digital, mp3 audio.

It didn't take long for them to also feature ipod connectors for them all just like the big box store electronics.

Adapt or die.

I own ebikes. It's not my fault when others can't.

^^^^^^
Gawd, I hate that shirt. I only ever see it worn by a large white men who think they found a shortcut to fitness or cool and has the arrogant attitude to match. It's their way of: "Stickin' it to the elitists."

Hubris is for losers.

Edit: The rub is the supposition that the elitist (meaning any performance cyclist) would think an E-Bike "cheating" or that they would give a darn if said e-biker passed them. Who cares? It's not cheating & people pass other people all the time. The shirt is a flip the script deflection to cover for attitude and lack of fitness. Why should anyone care that the passing e-biker need a mobility device to participate in daily activities. It's no different than a walker, a wheelchair or a cane? From this I deduce the wearer of the shirt has inadequacy issues.

I’d rather purchase a quality Kit and battery then purchase a rebranded bicycle that is built in a country that has a ban on them.

Sounds like a great opening for some standardization and QA/QC improvement, plus encouragement to the big parts suppliers to offer components.

The current smorgasbord of e-bike brands includes a lot of cobbled-together junk.

Trek, Specialized, Giant, Cannondale, Santa Cruz have all had an extensive array of ebikes.

What are the major bike brands who are introducing these as "new offerings"?

Also, shouldn't this be in the ebike subforum?

The mainstream brands have also been selling e-bikes for years.

Wally world has them. It's done. Consolidation comes next, right?

I think there's a significant opportunity in transportation between ebike and car. That's a huge price jump. Maybe the cheap Chinese ecars we hear about will provide the upward mobility step (no pun intended) between ebike and Honda Prologue.

There are already several steps available between ebike and electric SUV.
