So, the question is-how many of you ever, or regularly even, stop for a pint on the way home? Once in a while?

just curious
Some people are very fitness-conscious or speed-conscious. I can see them not wanting to have a couple of beers on a ride. It'll definitely slow you down and possibly fatten you up. Clearly some people are safety-conscious and wouldn't do it for that reason. Certainly if you know that you're seriously impaired by a little alcohol or simply don't want to take that chance, that's a wise decision. But as someone who bikes not for fitness or speed, but simply to get around, and who enjoys a beer or two (or three) on occasion, I have no qualms about grabbing a beer while out on a ride. I do it fairly often. I like using my bike to get around, and that means that I use it often to grab a bite to eat, too, which weighs me down at least as much, if not more, than a beer would. If it's the alcohol affects that you're concerned about, that's a question you have to answer based on your own tolerances. Clearly there's some zero tolerance folks here, and that's fine if that's their way, and clearly alcohol can influence your judgment and motor skills, but to what degree varies greatly from person to person. The legal limit, your personal tolerance, and your comfort level should be your guidelines. That's what I use, and I have no qualms about having an occasional beer and hopping on the bike. Hills are never my friend, so I don't let them determine my drinking or eating habits.

Do you carry a flask to spike your lemonade a bit?

I had a light beer before riding home today but it kind of made me tired, relaxed but tired feeling too. Heavy Beer also gives me gas so I don't imbibe that often. Wine on the other hand, is nice as is rum and coke.
Unfortunately mixing cycling and alcohol isn't too smart unless its at the end of a ride and you aren't driving/riding anymore. Duh!

Of course. Otherwise, road vibration would cause too much foam.

I think the guy found a reliable way to make sure he doesn't get dropped by the peloton.

Bleh! I never accept beverages from kids! Most of them are little schemers anyway. The lemonade stands I've seen try to sell you store-bought lemonade (sometimes they don't even make an attempt to hide that fact) and charge dollars for dixie cups. At least some of them are open about the fact they sell the store-bought stuff. Most probably just mix the Crystal Light packets inside or under the table. If I'm going to fork over a dollar or more for four ounces of lemonade, I want to see real sugar and spent lemons on the table!

A pint of good beer is probably cheaper than what most kids would charge for a pint of lemonade... and at least the local micro-brewery/pub is subject to regular inspections by the department of health!

I bet I can guess what else he's never had.

Sorry, but the holier than thou crowd and the net nannies should get together and start a new forum here-

"How to not only be better than everyone else, but ALSO tell them every day how they should be more like you!"

I wonder how many hits that would get?

Joe

You're right! That's amazing. Geek + Beer + Bicycle = That.
