Do you stop for tasty beverages?
Hello all-
This question has always been on my mind, and I wanted to see what people out there do-I like beer. a lot. I brew at home. My commute buddy does as well. he brews too.
We have been debating whether to stop in for a pint or 2 on the ride home, but my argument has been that shortly after the preferred establishment, I have a 2.5 mile hill to climb and a 10 mile total trip each way, and I don't really know about doing that with a belly full.
So, the question is-how many of you ever, or regularly even, stop for a pint on the way home? Once in a while?
just curious

It's not the full belly I would be worried about...
I will never stop for booze during a ride... I think it's irresponsible.
You don't want motorists around you driving after drinking, you shouldn't be either.
Ok, Daddy said his peace....

My Girlfriend works near me and we both commute to work by bike. We'll stop for a pint at a local pub after work every once in a while. Even after just a couple of beers we both find that the hill before her house really sucks to climb. It's nothing to climb if we haven't had a pint. Even after dinner we don't have the full can't get enough air feeling when we climb.
It will have effect and climbing you hill will suck. We still stop for a pint anyway if the mood strikes us.
cheers!

I too am a homebrewer. I don't have any establishments along my route, which is good, cause I'd be broker if there was. My reward for a ride home is a bottle or two/ pint or two of tasty beverage of my own creation.

I never crave beer on a ride. Afterwards is a different story.
smoothies are yet another completely different story. Jamba juice's medium size fits perfectly in a bottle cage.
Good stuff.

I do this from time to time. I think it's the bees knees to pop into the local pub on the way home for a pint and some dinner. I have found that it's best to sip and enjoy rather than chug. Having 2-3 pints sloshing in my belly on the ride up the hill leaves a lot to be desired. The only real problem I have is the inevitable pee break, but there are many large homes on my route with well-established hedge rows. I only resort to this act when there is absolutely no way I'm going to make it home without exploding. 99% of the time I go before I go, and there are no issues.

I stop for lemonade or ice tea on occasion. I have passed a few kids in recent times that are sitting out there with their parents with a few cases of minutemaid lemonade cans? What is with that?
A pint? Never touched the stuff so I wouldn't really know I guess. Last thing I'd think you would want is alchohol on the breath when riding a bike though. If you got tapped by a car, even if they were drunk, the cop would probably send them off and you'd be spending the night somewhere.

I think you can find out by trying it. I don't think it'll improve your ride but if it's not overdone it shouldn't affect you too much. However like someone said if you had an accident the alcohol will be suspect no matter how little you drink.

A) I was never much of a beer drinker, ever. B) Due to my liver, I've sworn off alcohol.
Having said that, a cool glass of lemonade, a milk shake, or an iced chai always slakes my thirst. (Boston coolers are the best, but you hardly see those outside of Michigan.)

Nothing compliments a ride like a good pint.
Go for it. One of my favorite rides has a bar and restaurant on it, soon followed by a pretty large three mile climb. It's manageable.

Where "tasty beverage" == "cold Yoo-Hoo", perhaps. Otherwise, naah.

You zero tolerance folks need to knock it off. Drinking one or two pints will not lead to DUI and is not irresponsible.

On my tour on the Katy trail, I stopped by some bar and ate a whole pizza and two pints of beer. After that I rode about 7-10 miles or so and then stopped for the night.
I don't think a 2-3 brews would slow you down too much, but would make for a relaxing ride actually.

It's funny that this thread came up because I am actually about to bicycle down to a local restaurant because they have $1 beers on tap on Mondays until about 9PM. They aren't full pints but they are close enough to make it a great deal regardless. I usually have about 3 beers and pedal back home. Its only about 2-3 miles there so I have no problems getting there or getting back. Besides which I have usually worked up quite a thirst by the time I get there.
