I went to demonstrate this to a friend in his kitchen when he was living at home ... I was about 17/18 and we'd had more beers than we should of (probably the double vody's that really did the damage) ... the ring I was wearing I think applied pressure at a certain point and the egg went F**&g everywhere and we just wet ourselves laughing ... just as his mum and dad came home from an evening out .... busted

Yeah so I got a torque wrench. An inexpensive one at that. So far with fiber grip and proper torque I haven't had any slippage of the seatpost, and I have no concerns of over-tightening the seatpost. I might need to find a portable torque wrench if I ever need to change the saddle height on a ride, but I think I'm fine.

Quick update on my bike: decided to remove the Clement X'Plor MSO 50mm tires as they grew to about 53mm on my narrow 19mm stock rims. There was about 2-3mm of clearance between the tire at the read and didn't want to run any risks. Picked up some 42mm Spec. Sawtooth tires and really like them for riding pavement to gravel. I also decided to relegate the 27.5 wheels back to my old bike, so I'll be sticking with 700c/29er for the Toughroad.
Speaking of 29er, I didn't give up on running 29er tires, though it was clear that 50mm is definitely the max that you'd wanna go with the rear. I ordered some WTB Nine Line 2.0 tires and, out of frustration, set them up tubeless on my ST i23 rims. took a while to get the tires to hold air but they're holding up so far, and since the tread doesn't go all the way around the casing I actually have more clearance in the back
