New 105 = 10 speed...what about low gearing?

So 105 goes 10 speed in 2006. What will happen to the ability to use brifters with mtn rear derailleurs to get lower gearing? Will shimano still offer the 9-sp stuff (similar to how they still offer the "high-normal" mtn rear derailleurs) or will the ability to use an XT derailleur on a drop-bar bike with brifters just disappear? (or perhaps will mtn bike stuff go 10 speed?)

Does anyone in the know understand how this will impact the touring bike gearing setup (if at all)?

You'll still be able to have your LBS order 9-speed components for quite a long time. You just won't find them sitting on the shelves.
