Have not done any blasting but have watched,,,and yes looks like work and messy. good luck on your finished product.

do you guys own or rent a sandblaster?
is it expensive?
You can get a sandblasting kit at wal-mart for about $15---infact that's the gun I use.You also will need a compressor---big is better.Then you will need a cabnit/booth/or somewhere to do the blasting and a way to recycle your sand.And sand.

EYE PROTECTION and DUST MASK

I guess i'm very lucky to have a professional sandblasting company called '' Métal fini '' ( meaning ''finished metal'' in french) near my home !! It cost me 40$ ( including the 10$ tip to the very helpful guy , Andrew , that helped me ) to Media blast my cruiser frame . It took me about 30 minutes to do the fork and the frame , and it all fitted in the Sandblasting ''cabinet'' which was 72 x 55in in size . That means i didn't get dirty at all...
I gave a good tip to Andrew , because before i started mediablasting my frame , he took about half an hour of his time to explain how the machine worked ,how to use it properly so i could save time ( and money , since i was paying by the hour) . He showed me and my brother all the types of media he had in the workshop , from glass beads , fine or coarse , to Aluminum Oxide , which i used.
