Met a couple teammates yesterday for a 4.5 hour ride in the hills. They speed up the hill, wait for me at the top, we meet up, I speed down and wait for them at the bottom. Lol. 300 TSS
Today was one of those days where my legs hurt and I didn't feel like riding, wanted to turn around 20 minutes in. But I kept going, legs opened up, and I started enjoying it. Stopped at the Sports Basement for overdue new shoes (I've been on my first ever pair - of tri shoes - for years). Expensive ($250) cuz I decided to get super wide shoes. They are still a couple sizes bigger than the length of my foot but a couple sizes shorter than my old non-wide shoes.
Got in 3.5 hours today for around 150 TSS. My head unit died so its a guess.

Rana new years day 5k this morning in a little friendly competition with my brother. Went out too hard and faded, but what can I expect. I haven't run seriously in like 3 years, just coasting on bike fitness still got me to not a terrible time or place on a decently difficult course. And I beat my brother!

When your plantar fasciitis feels 90% healed, 30deg cold & 15mphr winds can't stop you from riding outside for 2 hrs. Throw in 2x12 @218W. Intervals feel much better in cold than heat .
I've realized how diet is super important esp if you are off bike. Keeping a good diet has minimized fitness loss although my legs are ahead of my heart as of today. #Grateful

Couldn't muster more than an easy 40 minutes. It was either the 20 hours on the bike last week or I'm getting sick...or both.

Base starts tomorrow! It will be nice to have a goal again.
Also I haven't ridden outdoors in like 2 weeks. The winter madness is kicking in.

I was going to go on one of the local NYD rides but decided instead to bank some spousal karma and watch the Rose Parade with Mrs. Caloso, who was born in Pasadena.

I uploaded a training program into Training Peaks. That counts right?
Also, last year sucked travel wise, and this year will be the same. Resources for Corporate Road warriors and training are appreciated.

Back to work, which essentially ends my XMas / New Years mini camp. Less miles and elevation than years past but more structure....but still a boatload of miles. Definitely petered out.
I've also really focused on the admin side of things and kept up on my yoga, weights, and stretches but its never enough. My left SI joint has probably caused over 30 injuries in past 10 years, and when I can keep it aligned (which it hasn't been for years) I feel like a different / better rider. Whether this translates to anything other than injury prevention remains to be seen.
TLDR: My left sit bone slides forward out of place and its a lot of work keeping it aligned.

EZ hour today since my body still hates me after running (and little sleep) yesterday.

1.5 hrs yesterday in 30 degree with 3x8 @65rpm climbing intervals. Leg's don't feel worked today even though Monday was 2 hr with 2x12. Might be time to throw in 2x20 subthresholds

last night 90mins with 5x10 @ 94%, today 90mins with 6x10 @ 90%

8 minute ftp test today. The average of the two intervals came back dead on where I had pegged myself in TrainerRoad. I took 90% of the first (better power, more poorly paced) interval for a gain of about 2% from where I had myself before xmas. Fun, Fun.
**** that

We have one this weekend as well. I'm not sure if its going to be officially scored, but we'll get clinic points for it. The local Juniors club joins in and those kids are fast, so its not going to be a relaxing stroll. Next Saturday will be our last clinic, then Sunday is race day.
One of the frustrating things about the new USAC site is the search now returns all California races, so I see all the NCNCA stuff too (which is typically a 6 hour drive).

Planned to ride at lunch, but came down to find a soft but not totally deflated tire. Turned out to be a piece of wire. Replaced the tube and then managed to FUBAR the CO2 cartridge. Sigh. I have a pump but it was back upstairs in my backpack. What a pain.
