L00K Inside...
LOOk 566 that is. Picked up this bad boy on Monday and so far have put about 50 miles. Came with full sram rival and compact crankset. I'm still undecided about the compact crankset and 12-25 cassette, cant find that perfect gear(s).
Lbs threw in a set of look kleo pedals for free
weighs in a svelte 17.22 Overall very pleased so far with my new full carbon bike big difference from my trusty Caad4.

Nice looking bike you've got there, 12-25 with a compact is pretty low gearing wise. What size is it?

Nice bike. Fellow Look owner here. Lots of older Look frames still around and widely respected for their elegance, performance and durability.
A Look 566 is one of the best carbon fiber values in the industry...can get one for $2K with low level Shimano on close out.
I have considered the 566 but honestly, don't have a reason to switch as I have no complaints with my 555.
There has been a fair amount of discussion as to whether the 566 is more responsive than its fellow classmates aka Roubaix, Cervelo RS, Giant Defy etc. Hard to get a concensus here other than to say the 566 has a very compliant rear end that may not make the best race bike but that isn't what it is for. For everyday riding, I prefer some compliance on the crappy roads I ride in particular. Based upon on Look rep I spoke with, the 566 at the company in Ca gets a lot of demand for lunchtime rides because it is such a comfortable bike and they have every model of bike available to be ridden by their staff...good for feedback of course.
As to gearing...50-34 compacts in their stock form aren't a lot of fun unless you need the gearing for the mountains. So what are your options? Best option is if you aren't a pro is paste a 36-38t inner ring on your compact. Most don't need more than a 50t big ring unless they are low CAT racers. You could put a cheap inner ring on your compact and now you have a fantastic gearing with both rings more useable. Remember...gear inch redundancy in front is good because it makes either ring more useable...unless you need the climbing or descending gear inches and then you want to space your rings farther apart which makes shifting more problematic as many experience with compacts.
I ride 50/38 with 12/25 cassette and LOVE it.
Cheers.

I've got the same gearing as subnoob and it is a little annoying on the flats and low rollers. But fantastic for hills.

What is with the routing of the rear deraileur cable? Doesn't it usually go over the rear hub?

I'm not that familiar with your neck of the woods but looking at Google maps, your area looks flat. I would agree with C4L that changing out your inner ring would probably be your best bet...either that or go to a standard 53/39 double...but that would require switching out the entire crankset and bottom bracket, as well as re-positioning your FD.

If it weren't for the fact that I have an excellent relationship with my LBS, who sells Cannondale but not Look, I'd be getting a 566 for my next bike.
Unless you're a really powerful rider, strong enough to make chainrings flex, I'd investigate swapping chainrings out as suggested above. But unless you can hold 30+mph on the flat, or ride long descents often, I'd stay with the 50, maybe changing to a 36 tooth small ring.

They make a compact 52/38 so you wouldn't have to change the entire crankset, that way if you ever need the 50/34 it's just a matter of changing the chainrings.

I would swap out for a 11-25 if the top end is spinning out on you.
