Ouch, took a spill this morning

Was riding to work this morning on the bike trail. It had some wet areas from rain last night. I went down a hill and slowed to make a turn-- It was wet there too and I thought I was going pretty slow, maybe 10MPH.
The bike slid out from under me. Down I went-- I hit my left leg, then hip and then shoulder and slid for what seemed like 8 feet or so. Didn't hit my head. I got up and checked my self out, and I was OK except for
rash on leg and elbow. Checked my helmet. The bike is OK, bar wraps and seat are ripped. When I checked the tires, they had picked up a bunch of crap on the sides from the trail (leaves and dirt).

They aren't new tires but are not worn out either. I'm guessing a combination of the junk on the tires and underestimating my speed caused the slide. I checked the rest of the bike and rode to work and cleaned up the rash.

I'm going to get a bruise on my hip. I should have known better and been more cautious. Feeling stupid today.

Ouch ouch ouch. Glad it's not worse, and sorry it's not better.

I fell early this year, my first big one. It's such a shock. One minute you're in the happy normal world, the next you're in a whole different space.

Gravity sucks. Take some Advil or Alieve before bed - I'm predicting you'll be sore in the AM.

Yeah, our MUP here is also VERY SLICK when wet. Puddles form and sit and sit, mud is at the bottom and are very slick if you try to ride in them. I was out on a saturday ride and had an oncoming bike and had a large puddle to the right, in a straight section, I rode into the water and went down and was doing about 12mph. I hate it. The street is safer than that.

Some kind of Nexcare or other brand of large waterproof/breathable bandages might be helpful in recovery.
Good that it's only road rash - but that's easy for me to say!
Leaves and other damp road debris can be evil.

Fell in a parking lot in a similar situation. Funny how quick you get the rash.

This.

A big sheet of Tegaderm over the rash will protect your clothes and help it heal quickly.

Fell the same way on a wooden bridge that was moldy from being in the shade. It happened so quick I had no chance to respond. Had arm rash but no leg. Woke up the next morning and could not move my head off the pillow. Seems I strain all the the muscles in my neck on the opposite side I fell on.

Damn, that sucks. Hope the road rash heals up quick. Looks like your bike is fixable.
I got away with very little damage to my bike. I'm up and around and not too sore after hitting the pavement yesterday.

Nice rash. Nothing to show so far this year. As long as no bones or tendons are damaged I'm usually still having fun.

Oh boy! Those are going to be some good ooozy pickin' in a few days! Best part of road ra*****humb:

I doubt that your crash was due to any tire wear or debris. It was related to how wet the road was. Braking on wet roads is always tricky but braking on wet roads on a downhill is even worse. You have already moved your center of gravity further forward when on a hill just by being on an incline. When you brake, you move the CG even further forward. Add in a wet surface and the front wheel can be locked which makes it slide. A sliding front wheel is even less stable than a sliding rear wheel. You can't really recover from a sliding front wheel.

In wet (or ice) situations, rely on the rear brake more. Your CG is still moved forward but not as much and the front wheel won't wash out as easily.

The pain you have right now will be nothing once the itching starts. When I had road rash and the itching started, I wished i had the pain instead. Imaging being at the grocery store and furiously scratching your rear in front of everyone
