Newly Retired
My wife and I are both 60 and were able to BOTH retire together June 29th!
We’ve started riding again to build up for some short week long tours at the end of the summer early fall.
Perhaps long tours next year.
The bike is the fountain of youth😎😍

I'll agree with your closing sentence. Enjoy retirement, something for which I am not yet ready.

As I just mentioned in another thread, back in '99 I rode across the country with a small group that included a guy who turned 77 during the tour. I do a couple of self-contained tours every year. I routinely see older people out there on the road. Just last month I toured from St. Albans, VT (near the border with Canada) home to Philly. During the penultimate day I met a retired couple from England who were riding up the east coast of the U.S.

I have posted many times I consider my recumbent bike and trike my fountain of youth machines. I turn 80 this year and ride anywhere from 20 to 35 miles every other day.

It does seem somewhat backwards but some people become fitter and stronger after retiring, provided they step up exercise. Congratulations.

I did also on the 29th last day at work. So far I have not done anything too exciting but go to my wife chemo treatments with her or breast cancer. She has battled this for 9 years and it just will not go away. I have road my bike and running as I have in the past. The only thing different is Sunday night is easier to take since I do not have to dread getting up to figure out what needed to be done at work. Not as much money but frankly I will take the trade off. Congrats!

Congrats on the retirement. I have a few years left to work, or so I’m told. My wife and I both ride, so I hope we’re able to do what you’re doing now some day.

Well done!
I have five months and fourteen days left before I retire. My wife/stoker just became Medicare eligible this past weekend - she semi-retired a couple of years ago, moving from hospital laboratory work to part-time hobby job in a quilt shop.
Looking ahead to being able to ride more, both solo and tandem. Will miss bike commuting but I'll get over it! Will be planning to do some bike touring, both supported group tours and also traveling by car with the tandem on the roof.

Second, congrats to you on your retirement and I hope it is soon the two of you can take that ride together. Hang in there.

The woman I live with (12 years) became a friend when she decided to try cycling. I had been off the bike for about 8 years. I told her I could give her some advice and I helped her find a road bike. I showed her how to shift and brake and gave her some other pointers. Her response was, "So, are you going to ride with me?" That was 14 years ago. If it wasn't for her I would probably never have gotten on the bike again. These days it's what we do. And, life on the bike with her is immensely better than I ever expected. I'm 72. She's 65.
