Vintage XTR triple to single

Recently picked up a 2004 FSR Enduro with XTR crank. Thinking of upgrading the drivetrain to 1x9. I assume I can just run the middle chainring. I'd probably grind the teeth off the outer and use it as a bashguard. Anybody see anything else I'd need to change?

I don't see any rear brakes

If you're going to delete the front derailleur, then get a narrow/wide chainring.

Also consider a purpose made bash ring. Chainring, even ground down is generally good for a single bash.

I'm finally seeing the difference in frame geometry over the past 2 decades
