Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Nashbar Carbon 105 Road Bike

And for 48 hours, an extra 25% off,..so, $999 with 25%...carry the two...WOW!

Only 45 and 47 cm available, though.

If it is your size, buy two. I just got the "end of summer sales" catalog in the mail (because, you know, it is over two weeks into Summer.) Some ridiculous deals.

Can't go wrong with Nashbar IMO. Great bikes. Best in class customer service. I've had my CR4 (Ultegra) for two years now and I love it.

These bikes today...

It's worth noting that both the 105 and the new Ultegra Nashbar carbon bikes use some downgraded components.

For the 105 there is an alloy steerer on the fork on new models, which is a downgrade from previous models' full carbon forks. Otherwise the Nashbar is an unbranded Fuji Altamira frameset.

They really cheaped out on the new Ultegra bike it seems. Last year's CR5 which was listed at the same price, had the Ultegra crankset (vs. FSA), Shimano RS11 wheels (vs Vuelta), Ultegra Cassette (vs 105), and also had FSA finishing kit vs. no name, and internal cable routing (up to you if it's better or not)

Not saying that either bike is garbage, but the new Nashbar carbon bike supplier put on different components than the now out-of-business previous supplier

I would opt for an aluminum bike with better components. It would probably be lighter too at that price point.

Thanks for the analysis. I am not in the market so I had not looked that closely at the new model.

I still think they are good deals, but a bit less wonderful.

Oh, well. In a year or so this contract will run out and yet another different batch will be bought for sale.

I was pestering Nashbar for months about getting my size in the carbon 105. The three people I know who have that last iteration LOVE them, and I wanted to see if owning a carbon bike would make me 21 skinny and handsome again. Twice they had 30% off sales and the only sizes available were circus performer ranges (WAYYY big and Teeny tiny).

So now I'll save and shop anew.

As has been noted Fuji (Performance Bikes) sells the same stuff. See what is over at performance Bikes.

I just bought a Sportif and got $300 in free merchandise .... It's aluminum with a CF fork, 105, and Spyre discs; I paid between $800-$900 with tax and shipping. I shopped around some and couldn't find a better deal. And I am a big Nashbar fan.

Perhaps they went out of business in part due to spec'ing bikes too high for their contracted revenue...

It's not 5700; it's 11-speed, though not complete 5800.

Tektro brakes aren't as bad as people claim---not all of them anyway---and FSA cranks aren't either.

If I had a choice of 105 brakes and cranks and no-name derailleurs shifters and derailleurs ....
