There will be those who will call this victim blaming, but I will never pass on an opportunity to take a safety lesson away from a tragedy. I have no idea the details of the case, and it may not have been possible due to obstructions to visually clear the intersection before entering it, but looking both ways before entering an intersection is always a good idea. Green lights offer us ZERO safety.

So that is what 3 of these guys this year, getting hit in the middle of the night? These sleep deprivation rides are NUTS.
When I am riding in the dark I assume NOBODY sees me, lights or not. This is prime DUI time.
One night on my tour I was riding a quiet dark street in a small city, with my light on the right fork blade. A bike was coming from the opposite direction. They had a blinding helmet light. ALL I could see is this light, nothing of the rider or bike. I had NO clue where he was headed, left or straight. Can't tell if this applies here, but anyway. If you want to do these rides, go ahead, it's your neck.
