9-10 speed chain on a 7 speed cassette
What sort of issues can I expect doing this?
I'm looking into running a Microshift friction thumb shifter on my MTB with a 7 speed cassette and 10 speed clutched derailleur. I am unsure if a 7-8 speed chain will fit well in the derailleur, so I was wondering about running a narrower 9 or 10 speed chain on the 7 speed cassette. My concern there would be the narrow chain not engaging the shift ramps well enough.
Thanks.

I run 9 speed chains on lots of different 6,7, 8 speed setups but usually with indexing and matching derailleurs and shifters. No problems with 9 speed chains working on the cassette cogs.

I usually prefer 9-speed chains with 7-speed freewheels ... and 8-speed chains with 5- and 6-speed freewheels.
