Considering 2003 Cannondale R800 105 -- any known issues?
Looking for some insight from those familiar with the '03 R800s. I'm considering trading my Garmin Edge 500 for one of these. Are there any common issues with these bikes for which I should look? Overall impressions of the bike?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure about the year but check under the chainstays all the way back by the derailluer. There might be a tiny hole there (used in the manufacturing process) that had a tendency get corrosion around it and could possibly crack. It's not exactly common but it's happened.

Seems like a good trade to me...what's the value of an Edge 500 these days. Is the bike complete or just a frameset?

Yeah it seems like a good deal for a complete bike. Used 500s are going for $100 all day long.

Compared to the new road bikes, this thing is will be hard on your ass. Get a good saddle, from what I heard, all the bumps go straight into the seatpost.

I've got an earlier one and contrary to popular belief, they really aren't that bad at all. While mine does a lot of trainer duty, back up and vacation rides, it's seen metrics and has been comfortable.

I'm considering commuting to work, 17 miles each way. Unfortunately (fortunately?), the safest route is too hilly for me to attack with my fixed gear beater bike, and I don't really want to commute on my Emonda. So I think this could fit the bill as a commuter. I just wanted to get some intel just in case these bikes were terrible or something.
Thanks all for the input -- I appreciate it!

Yeah - I'd pay $175-200 for that bike in a heartbeat...which is a good 50% more than I'd pay for an Edge 500. So there's my vote.
BTW: that's a really nice one-way commuting distance if you can work out the logistics (bus in - ride home, or whatever). Could be a pretty long round-trip...
