"Hi-C Orange" labeled "ten speed" steel framed bike

It is orange and has a "Hi-C" logo on the front. Steel frame, Suntour components. 700cc wheelset, drop handlebars.

I bought this at a barn sale thinking it might be a collector's item to restore and I cannot find anything on the bike denoting a brand of manufacturer.

I would guess it is from the 70s when "10 speeds" emerged.

Anyone have a clue about this bike's history, etc.?

Thanks!

I've heard of these, maybe here on BF. The Suntour components should have a two letter date code, and you can decipher them at vintage-trek.com.

Beyond that, I doubt these will become much of a collectors item (in our lifetime) unless it's new and unridden.

With the Hi-C orange drink logo I am wondering if there was a promotional use through a bike company or something like that. I may contact the Bicycle Museum in Ohio to see if they might have come across something like this.

It is not in great condition. There are lots of scratches on the frame. I doubt it was ridden much, but it looks to be over 40 years old.

Could always be like those Chiquita tubing labels on front fork blades.

Every consumer product branded bike I have seen has been a bottom of the line bike, with fancy graphics and paint. Typically they are given away as premiums or prizes at stores (company gives the store a bike to raffle off or whatever in return for buying product displays).

As far as parts, bikes get parts changed by owners all the time. So it may have had some nice upgrades by a former owner.
