Bikes: This list got too long: several ‘bents, an urban utility e-bike, and a dahon D7 that my daughter has absconded with.

I switched to a different commuter bike this winter. The bad part is that it is 27.5 and there are no road studded tyres that I can find (and the studded knobbies are very expensive). The result is that this has been the first winter in years that I have driven on snow and ice days.

In the past, I relied on studded tyres and they worked great for keeping me upright.

I'm surprised they let you do that...unless it's under cover of darkness.

Evidently they don't "let" you (MikeTé mentions "bikes not allowed"). What MikeTé may want to know is that the NCC web site for the skateway displays three webcams, that do refresh every once in a while, apparently 24x7.

27.5 is the same as 650b, so you have a couple options for studded:
  1. Nokian makes a 650b studded tire, the A10, available at Peter White Cycles in New Hampshire: Peter White Studded Tire Page This is a two row studded tire suitable for flat ice and plowed pavement
  2. 45NRTH Gravdal : Gravdal This is a four row studded tire that can handle more mixed conditions.
I have commuted on both tires and the Gravdal is superior.
