Brylcreem! Oh, man that brings back memories. Not good ones. But growing up in the '60's if we had something special to go to my mom would get out the "Dipity doo" to keep my hair in place like the guys above. Yuk! Perhaps they felt the same way I did or maybe they felt dapper? That had to be in style.

Can also recall a product called "Butch Wax" which was a transparent red goo for male hair.

If the weather were hot and/or if one were exercising it would melt and drip down the forehead...

Or if you were sitting in front of a fire at Scout camp, as happened to a buddy of mine.

Probably the winter of 1981. Two of the big guns of the DAF-Gazelle-Cote d'Or team, Hennie Kuiper and Adri van der Poel during a winter training ride. Hennie rides a correct Gazelle, even if it is a CX bike, but Adri? A Motobecane CX bike?

Fun fact: until only a little while ago "Van der Poel" was Adri, and Mathieu was "Adri's son". Now "Van der Poel" means Mathieu, and Adri is "Mathieu's dad".

It won't be long before Raymond Poulidor will become "Mathieu's granddad".

Wonderful picture I came across on Fabio Farelli's blog. It raises al sorts of questions regarding frame angles, brake lever position and bike sizing in general.

Daan de Groot is leading the peloton by 20 minutes or so during the 13th stage of the 1955 Tour de France:

Needless to say, he won that stage. (On another note: I want one of those jerseys.)

I have given serious thought to getting a big print of this and putting up in my family room. Don't think the wife would care for it, though.

Excellent picture. This is what we all think we look like at L'Eroica.

When I told my dad about my intention to order it from the catalog, he took me to his friend's bike shop where I got a used Kabuki instead. One of my friend's brothers did buy the Sears bike later that year. The Kabuki was okay, but not the same as shiny new out of the box.
